Imply meaning: not only can the terrible events but also the good events bring people together.).2、Reading Strategy:1) Predict the content of the passage by reading the title to facilitate the ability of prediction.2) Skim for the main idea by reading the first sentence of each paragraph to develop the ability of generalization.3) Scan for specific information by filling the chart to foster Ss the ability of perusal.3、Words,expressions: Learn and understand the key words and expressions (kill, murder, bright,playground, bell, rang, told, close, silence, meaning, became, earth, hero, flew, takeplace, asas, World Trade Center). 4、Sentence patterns: Understand the adverbial clauses with when, while, questions and statements withpast progressive and past tense to use them to describe a event. .5、Value:Mobilize the enthusiasm of students effectively. Train students to haveself-confidence and ability to cooperate. Build harmonious, democratic, united, andrespectful atmosphere.Be able to remember some important events in the history both in China and theworld and remember to grasp today and future.Teaching ProcedurePre-reading:(12 minutes)Stage 1(Task 1) What you were doing when you heard the news? (12 minutes)Step 1 T greets the Ss. (1 minute)Step 2 Ss talk about the events (Wen Chuan earthquake and the opening ceremony Olympic Games in 2008) with some questions (when/where did they happen? What were you doing when you heard the news?) and T shows some related vocabulary ( heard, recent, kill, event, take place, destroy, earth) in PPT.(6 minute)Step 3 Ss report the information they have searched about the events in the textbook before class-What do you know about the events? And T presents more words and expressions key to the comprehension of the passage.
