Unit 3 Travel Journal Period 2 Reading Journey down the Mekong 授课人 叶 芳 授课时间 2010 9 15 授课班级 高一 二 班 Unit 3 Travel Journal Period 2 Reading Journey down the Mekong Teaching aims 1 Knowledge 1 Get students to learn some new words and expressions by reading Mekong Laos Myanmar Thailand Cambodia Vietnam glacier rapids valley waterfall plain etc 2 Get students to know what a river can be used for 2 Ability Get students to grasp some reading skills 3 Emotion Stimulate students love for nature by getting them to know the greatness of a river Key and difficult points Get students to learn different reading skills especially the skills for different reading purposes Teaching aids A multi media computer Teaching procedures Step 1 Greetings Step 2 Revision and pre reading Revise what the students have learned in the first period Using the saying The world is like a book if you stay at home instead of traveling it means that you just stare at 盯着 one page of a book to demonstrate the importance of traveling And the teacher talks about the Yellow River with Ss introduce Mekong to Ss and list the countries that the Mekong River flows through China the Lancang River Laos Myanmar Burma Thailand Cambodia Vietnam T he South China Sea Then tell the students that they are going to read a passage of traveling down the Mekong Step3 While Reading 1 First reading Skimming Get students to skim the text and answer the following three questions 1 Who will travel in the text 2 Where are they going 3 How are they getting there 4 What did Wang Wei prepare for the trip 2 Second reading Scanning What didn t she prepare for the trip 3 Third reading Task1 Could you use some words or phrases to describe the characteristics of Wang Wei and Wang Kun Task2 Show students a form and get them to discuss in pairs and fill in the form so that the students can summarize what they have read Their preparations They bought got their cousins and found The Mekong River It begins at moves and passes through Half of it is in It enters Then it travels slowly through At last it enters Task3 Match the main idea with each paragraph Para 1 A The preparation before the trip and details about Mekong river Para 2 B Different attitudes between Wang kun and Wang wei Para 3 C Taking a great bike trip along the Mekong river Step4 Post reading Just imagine what the trip would be like will there be any difficulties dangers or some funny things and try to act it out Step5
