Presentation of Unit 17 DisabilitiesUnit 17 DisabilitiesThe text :DisabilitiesGrade :Senior TwoClass Type:Listening and SpeakingPeriod2:ReadingI、 Analyses of Teaching MaterialThe content is a reading passage named “Disabled?not me!”Which is about Disabilities.It is Narrative structure .By studying this unit , we should help students to develop friends with the disabilities and to get well along with disabled person.As we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of the language learning. The input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. Therefore, this lesson has a important position of this unit. If the students can understand it well, it will be easier for them to learn the rest of this unit. II、 Analyses of the Students1. High school students have some understanding of disabled people in daily life, also have certain ability in listening, speaking, reading and writing,but reading is still a difficult part for them. 2. Students have stong interest in multimedia teaching. III、 Teaching Aims According to the new standard curriculum and the syllabus, the teaching aims are the followings:1.Knowledge objectives (1) The students can master the usage of the key words and phrases,such as:disability, ability, fair,get around to,get used to,and so on. (2) The students can hold the Direct and Indirect Objects in the proper situation. (3) The students deduce their function and use-ness from in the context.2.Ability objectives (1) To develop the students abilities of reading and writing. (2) To guide students to set up effective reading strategies. (3) To improve the students reading skills, especially their skimming and scanning skill.3.Emotion or moral objectives(1) To train the students abilities of studying by cooperating .IV、 The key points and difficult pointsKey points : 1. To hold the function and use of the new words and phrases, and the content of the text.2. To improve the students reading ability and skill. Difficult Points:1. Some long and difficult sentences.2. How to improve the students reading ability and skill.V、 Teaching MethodsAs we known, a good teaching method requires that the teacher help students develop good sense of the English language. In order to achieve these teaching aims, after the analysis of the teaching material and teaching aims.According to the modern social communication teaching theories . I will use the following methods:1. Schema theory,it plays an important role in English reading comprehension.2. Communicative Approach,for example:group work or class work.Because language is communication tool. 3. Whole Language Teaching,cultivate their language sense in English. 4. Task-based Language Teaching,by asking-and-answering activity to improve the students reading. 5. An interactive reading ,conducive to the interaction between teachers and students, and to master the students learning situation timely. 6. Cooperative inquiry learning ,to cultivate students self-learning ability. 7. Total Situational Action :a “scene activity” teaching method , it establishes a real scene and the interaction between the teacher and the students. At the same time, CAI (电脑辅助教学) can provide a real situation with its sound and picture, it can develop the students creativity in learning English.VI、 Teaching AidsTo make my class lively and brief , convey more information in limited time, I will use :1. A multimedia 2. A computer to show the teaching aims and the picture ,and play mp3.3. The teaching material 4. A blackboard5. Some chalksVII、 Teaching Procedure(20 minutes) :Ill divide the lesson into 6 steps.Post-readingWhile-readingHomework Lead-in Pre-readingWhile-reading greetingsStep greetings (1min) It helps students to pay their attention on the new class.StepLead-in (5min) Present the teaching goals on the screen,students will have a clear idea of what they will learn in the class. Introduce the topic by showing some pictures about disabilities, then ask students to speak out any words that come to their mind. It will invoke students old knowledge and get preparation to the new text.Step Pre-reading (1min)Ask some question:(1) Do you know any one who is disabled?(2) Should disabled students be allowed to go to university?(3) Try to summarize each paragraphs meaning.Purpose of my design: (1) To get to know something about the structure.(2) To have a better understanding on the main idea.Step While-reading (9min)Task 1. fast reading (2min)Skimming: students should read the material fast to find out the main idea/topic sentence for each paragraph.Task 2. intensive reading (5min)To present some difficult words on the screen,and give some simple explanations. at last,finishing the blanks by using the new words. This section will smooth away the main obstacles while comprehend the passage.Purposes of my design: Guide students to read the material carefully and take some important notes, then answer the following questions. Task 3.group work or class work (2min)Scanning: Ask students to read the material carefully and find out the correct answers to finish the following chart.Purposes of my design: Enable students to understand the given material better by using different reading skills. And proper competition can arouse the students interest in English learning. “Task-based” teaching method is used here to develop the students ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained.Step Post-reading (3min)Task 1.group work or class work Ask students to close books and finish the summary according their notes.Retell the story /Sum up the passage in students own words according to the chart. Task 2.Individual work, pair work, group work, class work Discuss the topic with other group members and then choose a reporter to share their opinions about disabilities with the whole class.Purposes of my design: If the students can finish this task well, they will benefit a lot in their spoken English. Most students can take their parts in the activities, especially for the students who have trouble in English study. Step Homework (1min)1. Do ex2 in the exercise books.2. Write a short passage about the dialogue what they have learned . this is used to practice writing ability of the students.Purposes of my design: Homework is so important and necessary for students to master the knowledge they learned after class. It will check whether the students achieve the teaching aims.VIII、 The Design of the Writing on the Blackboard A good blackboard design can make students get key information in limited time. I will make a design like this: The title of the passage is on the top of the blackboard. Divide the bb into three parts, the left is for the key words and phrases, the middle is for the texts structure,while the right is for the topics.Unit
