Unit 8 Is there a post office near here?Grammar Focus (3a-3c) Distinguished judges, my dear teachers ,good morning. I am NO.6 Its my great pleasure to stand in front of you.Its really a great opportunity for me to meet you,and talk about what my understanding of this text . This lesson is a grammar focus lesson selected from Go for it, Book 2, Grade 7.The title of this unit is “Is there a post office near here?.” I Will explain my teaching from eight parts. Material analysis: This topic in the unit 8 is focused on asking and giving directions on the street .The material is Grammar Focus lesson . It helps students to review the prepositions of place .and master the structure of “there be ”and “where”question.The content of the article is consistent with the interest of the students, and it cultivates students ability of thinking.Student analysis: As students of Grade 7, they are so active and prefer to take part in learning activities. Also, they are familiar with the topic and will definitely show great interest in learning more. But they are short of vocabularies .Besides, their oral English is usually poor For most students grammar lesson is dull and boring Therefore, while teaching, I will try my best to attract their interest and encourage them to practice and master the grammar.Teaching objectives:By the end of the class, students will be able to:1) Knowledge goals:1.understand and master words about places in English,such astown,around,north2.master There be structure3.master some prepositions of place2) Ability goals:1.use simple English to express how to ask and answer about places.in real life.2.be able to ask and give directions 3) Emotion goals: By asking and giving directions on the street to enhance their logical expression and interpersonal skills. Teaching importance and difficulties:1.Sentences about how to ask and answer about places:2.The general questions of “there be ”and its negative answer and positive answer3.The structure of where question.4.Ask and give directions on the street.5.The principle of proximity of “there be ”Teaching and Learning MethodsAccording to the analysis above, Ill try to use task-based teaching method situational and communicative method to achieve the teaching objectives. Students are the masters while teachers are the directors during the class, Cooperative learning, group work will be used here to guide the students to master the grammar and sentence patterns.Meanwhile, with the aid of multi-media, pictures and videos, the teaching and learning will be more effective.Teaching procedures:Step 1 Lead-inHave a free talk with students and ask:-Is there a library in your school ?-Where is it ? Its onin across from.-Is there a restaurant near your school?(Purpose: The question will attract students attention and introduce the topic. Ask them to use prepositions. It paves the way for further study.)Step 2 Presentation1.Ask students to look at the map of their school location.ask and answer in pairs -Is there a restaurant near our school ?-Yes ,there is/No,there isnt.2. Play a game.who has the best memory?Encourage students to use prepositions of place to guess the buildingStep 3 Practice1. Enjoy a songAsk students to enjoy a song about prepositions of place,then sing along with it.(Purpose :It can stimulate the atmosphere.They can enjoy the learning of English.) 2. Do exercisesOpen the books and ask students to look at the map carefully and have a discussion.then ask and answer questions .Finish 3a. Look at the map in 3a and write three sentences.Finish3b3. Role-playDivide the class into four groups ,and hand out the word cards to the group.Name the passways in the classroom :North Street ,New Street,Center Street. Ask them to introduce there group like following:-We are on New Street.There is a bank near our family.Is there a bank near your family? -Yes, there is.There are two hotels near our family.We are on Bridge Street.Then,they role-play conversations about asking and giving directions.(Purpose:I set a real situation here to arouse students to take part in the communication . In this way, students can practice the ability to read for specific information.To encourage students to solve problems in daily life)Step4 ConsolidationAsk students about Shuangqingwan Park in southern part of our city-Have you heard of Shuangqingwan Park? Where is it?Hand out paper,color pens and stickers . Design the park ,then show and introduce it to the class.(purpose:They are familiar with the topic.the new park is under construction,so they are happy to have a chance to express their ideas. Through group work, it can cultivate their creative and cooperative spirits.)Step5. SummarySummarize what we have learnt today:the usage of “there be”ask students to read the Grammar Focus ,then fill the blanks.(Purpose:emphasize the grammar of the lesson . To encourage students to solve problems in daily life.)5.HomeworkIll divide my homework into 3 levels write three sentences with”there be”Make a dialog about asking and giving directions.3.Draw a map of your neighborhood and write about it. They can choose two of them as their homework.Only in this way can we ensure students of different levels benefit from this lesson.Blackboard design:(omitted)To strengthen the quality of this lesson, blackboard design is also of great significance.
