Teaching PlanThe life of the ButterflySchool:Xing Zhi School Name:Cheng Shuhui.Analysis of the textThe content of this lesson is a science article based on the whole life of butterflies adapted from the Internet. This article is quite logical and close to the daily life of students with clear clues as story goes on. But there is large amount of information contained in this article and its language is hard to understand, so its really not very easy to learn it well.Analysis of students:The students of Grade six have already had a certain amount of language accumulation and they are capable of doing some retelling and performance under the guidance of pictures. However, there are indeed some difficulties for the kids to understand such an article especially when they just learned reading not long ago. On the other hand, kids from urban areas know little about butterflies and are only restricted to some indirect channels like books and science lessons. Thus, how to help students feel the changes about butterflies through the design of activities becomes more important. Purpose of the Whole Teaching DesignThe teacher aims to help students to understand the whole life of butterflies through some teaching activities such as listening, watching, reading, speaking and performing and also hopes to cultivate some reading skills and techniques after this lesson. For instance, how to read this passage by capturing some key information as time and place. Meanwhile, we hope that the students could feel how wonderful and marvelous the life is via learning the whole life of butterflies, whats more, every transformation of life needs unremitting efforts. .Teaching Aims:Knowledge aims:i. Students should be able to understand and say butterfly; caterpillar; cocoon; leaves.ii. Students should be able to understand and say come out from,make;flyiii. Students should be able to understand and say the content of the passage.Ability aims: i. Students can read the passage out based on different sense groups.ii. Students can develop their reading skills such as scanning and skimming.iii. Students can be aware that its very important to cooperate within the group. Emotional aims: i. Students should be able to enjoy the beauty of the life via reading this passage.ii. Students should know that life is full of miracles. Try to work hard to be someone useful.iii. Students awareness of good co-operation and proper competition can be fostered. Teaching Key Points and Difficult Points:Key points: i. Students should be able to understand and say all new words and phrasesii. Students should be able to understand and describe the life of the butterfly.Difficult points:i. Students can describe other creatures life based on what we have learnt in this period. Teaching aids:Pictures ; Flashcards; PPT etc. Teaching Procedures: Step 1.Warm-up Have a daily conversation with students. Design intention:Close the distance with the students and reduce the anxieties of students toward the unknown through simple greetings. Step 2. Presentation Have students look at the screen. Encourage them to tell me what they can see in the picture. Present the butterfly. Design intention: Have them understand a little bit knowledge about the butterfly and stimulate students interesting of the science. Step 3: Pre-reading After the presentation of the butterfly, Ill play a video about the life of the butterfly. Then encourage them to tell me what they can see in the video. Design intention :Watching video clips can make kids extract the information as much as they can in the shortest time. The pictures from the video could produce the effect of recurrence in the following text reading so that the tedious text will be turned into a vivid picture Step 4: While reading (Read for the general idea) Have students read the whole story as quickly as possible. Then encourage them to choose the best title of this story.Design intention :Its essential for students to choose the topic for the story through fast reading which not only give them more exposure to the complete story with the forms of words to establish the main idea of the story but meanwhile it foster their ability to grasp the main information of the passage. Step 5.While-reading (Read for the details)Have students read the passage again and answer some questions. Step 6. While-reading (Read for the details) Have them read the whole passage for the third time. This time, they Should try to fill the table together to get some detailed information about the life of the butterfly.Design intention : To fill in the forms could make the keyinformation of the text presented before the students in a very concise and direct way, then the students meditate the text once again after filling in the forms. Pictures and videos presentedseveral times in front of the students during the task willstimulate the sensory organs in multiple ways and the pictureof how the butterflies grow up emerged gradually. Step 7 Post-reading (Extension)1.Encourage students to have a review on the whole story by filling in the blanks. The teacher is ready to help when necessary.Design intention:To fill in the key information of the passage could make students read the passage completely once again; the repeated and effective language input is able to sweep away the obstacles of the following performance.2.Let the student enjoy a video about the life of the frog. Design intention: The transition is from the understanding of the butterflys lifetime to that of the frogs. For one thing, it can broaden the students horizons as well as let them experience how wonderful life is; for another, it can provide a kind of reference for students in the process of final language output. 3.At this stage, the students should know the whole process of the change of the butterfly, so I will ask them to describe the life of the frog and bird in the same way.
