Unit 5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came ?Section A(1a-1c)黄湾中学 孙静Analysis of the Material本课是八年级下第5单元第一课时的内容,以“What were you doing when the rainstorm came ?”为中心话题,让学生通过学习并运用过去进行时,准确地描述过去正在发生的事情。这些事情都与我们的生活密切相关,能够轻松的激起学生学习英语的兴趣,同时师生,生生之间的交流方式,培养了学生的合作精神,促进了师生,生生之间的友谊,从而提高了学生学习友谊的积极性。Analysis of the Students学生在七年级下册就学过现在进行时,已经掌握了如何使用现在进行时来描述日常活动的技巧,有了一定的知识基础,这些都有利于他们学习过去进行时。本节课的话题紧贴学生生活,容易调动学生的学习积极性。Teaching Aims 1. Knowledge Objects:1) Function: learn to talk about past events. 2) Key vocabulary: rainstorm, wait for the bus , walk home, at the time of the rainstorm3) Target language : What were people doing yesterday at the time of the rainstorm? What were people doing when the rainstorm came? I was reading.4) Structure: Questions and statements with the past progressive tense.2. Ability Objects:1) Learn and master the past progressive tense.2) Be able to talk about past events using the target language.3. Moral Objects: Teach the students to take care of themselves when the rainstorm came.Teaching Key pointsLearn and master the usage of the past progressive tense.Teaching Difficult pointsBe able to talk about past events using the past progressive tense.Teaching MethodsThe situational teaching approach, communicative approach, behavior teaching method , the multimedia-assisted teaching and learning method.Teaching AidsPPT, a textbookTeaching ProgressStep 1 Greeting Greet the class.Step 2 Presentation 1. Show a picture of playing the piano and say :T: Look at the picture.What is the boy doing now?Ss: He is playing the piano.Then show the other two pictures and revise The Present Continue Tense.T: What are you doing now?Ss: We are having an English class.T: What were you doing at this time of yesterday?Ss: .Help the students to answer : I was watching TV at home. I was shopping.(设计意图:通过幻灯片演示复习现在进行时的内容,导入过去进行时通过创设具体的情景,加强学生对旧知识的巩固,采用对比的教学方式,使学生更好、更快地认识过去进行时。)2. Show a picture about the weather, and teach the word rainstorm.T: Yesterday, there was a rainstorm , what were the people doing when the rainstorm came. Here are some reports. Now lets have a look.Reporter: Where were you when the rainstorm came?Boy: I was studying in the library.Reporter: Where were you when the rainstorm came?Man : I was on the street.Reporter: What were you doing when the rainstorm came?Girl: I was talking with my mother in my house.Reporter: What were you doing when the rainstorm came?Woman : I was waiting the bus at the bus stop.Explain the progressive tense and the structure to the students.(设计意图:通过展示图片,教授新词rainstorm,为学生创设真实情景,让学生轻松学习过去进行时,体验学习的乐趣。)Step 3 Work on 1a Show the picture on Page33 and talk about it with the students:T: Where was the girl?Ss: She was in her house.T: What was she doing at the time of the rainstorm?Ss: She was doing her homework.Have students work in pairs with other pictures. Have the students read the instruction in 1a and match the statements with the people in the picture. Then check the answers in class.Step 4 Listening Practice1. Have the students read the phrases in 1b and the question the TV reporter asked aloud. Then have students listen to the tape and circle the correct responses .Check the answers.2. Have students read the sentences first, then ask them to listen and fill in the blanks.Check the answers.(设计意图:对听力材料进行挖空练习,有助于学生听力能力的提高。同时,学生在展示听力信息时,语言的表达能力也得到了提高,为后面的说也打下了良好的基础。)Step 5 Practice 1. Let students work in groups of five. One is the reporter, and the others are the people in Picture a ,b, c, d.2. Speaking: Look at the pictures and answer the questions by using “was/were + doing”.3. Pair work . Ask students to make conversations with the pictures in 1a.4. Make a survey. Have students work in groups by asking the question : What were you doing at 7:00 last night? Then fill in the table. Finally, have them give a report.(设计意图:这样的活动既可以培养学生的合作意识,又能在真实的语境中用过去进行时进行交流,巩固了本节课的重点,从而突破了难点,促使学生在学习过程中体会理解。)Step 6 Summary T: What have you learned in this period? Ss: T: When the rainstorm came, what should you do ?Help students to answer: Dont stand under the tree./Dont answer the phone .We must take care of ourselves.(设计意图:对本课所学的重点内容进行总结, 并让学生学会自我保护,达成情感教育目标。)Step 7 Homework 1. Remember the words and phrases in this lesson. 2. Make a survey about what their family members were doing at 8:00 a.m. last Sunday.(设计意图:通过让学生调查家庭成员在过去某个时刻所做的事情,进一步熟悉并巩固过去进行
