After reading the article, students can learn more about the natural disasters and how to face them correctly.学情分析(Analysis of students)This lesson is for the students in Junior Two, most of whom are active and enjoy taking part in interesting lessons. As a junior middle school student, they cant keep their attention for long. And their English level is different. So I will use some activities and topics they are interested in to attract their attention.教学目标(Teaching Aim) 知识目标(The knowledge objective) a: Students could understand, spell and use the following words: flashlight, wood, match, candle, die down, fall asleep, beat heavily against, hard, in the mess, fallen trees b: Students can understand the function of the past progressive tense and operate the past progressive tense sentences,such as What were you doing when the rainstorm came? 能力目标(The ability objective) By the end of the lesson, students will be better able to talk about past events by using the past progressive tense. 情感目标(The moral objective ) Learn to help people in need by some ways.教学重点(Teaching key points)Understanding essay aims the effect, to master reading skills, seize the key information, complete questions effectively.Help students master the way of writing about this kind of articles.教学难点(Teaching difficult points)Using skimming and scanning effectively, improve the reading abilities and get students interested in reading.教学手段(Teaching aids)Multimedia software and computer教学方法(Teaching methods) situation-based language teaching method Communicative method Task- based language teaching method Intensive reading, extensive reading, skimming and scanning教学过程(Teaching procedures)Step 1. Warming up and lead inLet students describe the picture on Page 35Step 2. Pre-readingGuide students to memorize the signs of a storm and lead them to think what they need to prepare for a storm.Step 3. While-reading1) Read the passage quickly and answer 3 questions.Q1: Where did the storm happen?Q2: When did the storm happen? by the order of timeQ3: Who experienced the storm?2) Read again and divide the passage into 3 part and the main idea of each part.Para.1+2-part 1: before the storm Para 3- part 2: during the storm para 4- part 3: after the storm3) Read carefully part by part Part 1: para 1+2 Q1: What was the weather like before the storm? Q2: What did they prepare for the storm? ( present new words:flashlight, wood, match, candle) Q3: What did these things they prepared used for? (encourage students to talk and practise their oral English) Q4: What were people doing? (explain put pieces of wood over the window) Part 2: para 3 Q1:What was Ben doing when the rain beat heavily against the windows? (explain “beat heavily against”) Q2:What did Bens family do after dinner? Q3:Did they have fun? Why? Guess the meaning of “hard” and choose the right answer. More questions to help students to understand the passage. (die down)Part 3: para 4 Q1:After the storm, how was the neighborhood? Q2: (Show the picture on P35 again)Looking at the mess, what did they do? Q3: Are storms always bad? Everything has got two sides, what is the good side?4) Review the passage. a. By completing the conversation between a reporter and Ben. In the conversation, teacher give some clues to help students to remember the passage, the contents they should complete are the importances and difficulties. Student A: reporter student B:Ben b. Match the Chinese words with the English wordsStep 4. Post-reading Discuss what other things can bring people closer together?Team work: game, work, sports.Natural disasters: earthquake, typhoon, flood, landslide Show a video about the landslide which happened in Maoxian. Then give students more information about it, including a lot for people volunteering to help the people in Maoxian by many ways. “People in Maoxian need help now. What can you do to help them” Step 5. SpeakingStep 6.
