Unit 8 Thats how most accidents happen.一、教材分析1. 教学内容本课时主要通过学生辨认和回忆日常生活中常见的安全警示和标识,学习相关的词汇和短语,通过听说让学生了解有关安全事故的相关报道、类似事件的评论以及结合生活给出的具体建议。本部分内容涉及到描述、评论和建议的相关表达方法,同时培养学生接受和提出安全建议的口语表达能力。2. 教学重点、难点(1) 教学重点在导入和听力活动中加深对词汇和短语的记忆。通过操练对话巩固有关警告、咨询和提建议相关重点句型。指导学生在给定情境下使用所学语言进行口语训练。(2) 教学难点在给定情境下如何运用所学语言进行口语训练。二、教学目标1. 知识目标(1) 在导入环节中通过图片识别caution, emergency, accident, speeding, speed limit, traffic signs的意思。(2) 能运用suggestion, the main cause of, be caused by, its wrong to do sth, remember (not) to do sth, give advice on在日常安全方面提出建议。2. 技能目标(1) 学生能根据听到的信息辨别出安全问题及如何解决这些问题的建议。(2) 学生能运用“Never do sth. .” “Do sth .”和“Dont do sth .”等句式对他人的安全问题提出自己的意见和建议。(3) 学生能运用“I see. Any other suggestions?” “I agree.” “Yes, I think thats .”等表达方式对别人的建议表示赞同或感谢。3. 情感目标树立文明和谐的社会公德意识,注意个人和公共安全。学生能在关注自己安全的同时,关注他人的生命安全。第1课时Step I Lead-in1. Watch a video.Ask the students to watch a video about a car accident with the following question:What caused the accident?Ask some students to share their causes.2. Look and match (Activity 1)Work in pairs. Read the phrases and match the signs. Encourage the students to guess the meaning of the new words according to the caution signs.Reference answers:(1) a (2) c (3) b (4) d (5) f (6) E3. Listen and answer (Activity 2)Ask the students to listen to the tape and answer the question:What are the speakers talking about?Check the answer and give the feedback.Train students not to shout out the answer. Ask one student, and then ask the others to agree or disagree with a show of hands.Reference answer:They are talking about a traffic accident.4. Discuss and practice (Activity 3)Work in pairs. Ask them to discuss the reasons that may cause traffic accidents. One student of each pair may report their reasons.A: What are the causes of most car accidents?B: In my opinion, speeding is perhaps the main cause of car accidents.Teacher may list the causes on the blackboard.Step II Listening1. Listen and answer (Activity 4)Ask the whole class to listen to the tape and answer the question.2. Listen and tick (Activity 5)The whole class will read and translate the sentences before listening to the tape. Explain some of the sentences if the students have difficulties.3. Listen and underline (Activity 6)Play the tape, and ask the students to underline the sentences that we used for warming,informing and giving advice.Check the answers and explain some of the sentences. If necessary, ask the students tomake short conversations using the sentences patterns.4. Listen and complete. (Activity 7)The students listen to the tape and work in pairs, discuss the driving safety tips and complete the tips.They may do it by themselves, then check the answers with their partners. Ask some students to share their answers. Check together and give the feedback.Step III Speaking1. Read and actAsk the students to read the dialogue in pairs.2. Read and remember.Give the students three minutes to read the dialogue and try their best to remember it.Then have a memory test to see how much they have got.3. Read and act.Ask some pairs to act out the dialogue.4. Discuss and match. (Activity 8)Ask the students to match the question to the proper suggestion or warning.5. Act and practice. (Activity 9)The teacher may demonstrate with a student to give students a model.Work in pairs. Ask them to choose one of the three situations or create a new situation. Make a short dialogue with their partner.Step IV Homework1. Finish exercise book Page 73 Exercise 1-3.2. Make a dialogue with your partner about tips for taking a train or cooking.第2课时Step I Lead-in1. Look and match (Activity 10)1) The students read the pictures. Describe them in English.2) The students will work in pairs to discuss the pictures and the information. The teacher explains some key words or phrases.3) Read the information and match the pictures individually.4) Check the answer and give the feedback.Reference answer:(1) d (2) b (3) a (4) c2. Discuss and list (Activity 11)Guide the students to review the sentences about suggestions and warning. Step II Scan and choose (Activity 12)Ask the students to scan the text and choose what we should pay attention to about apartment safety. Step III Careful reading1. Read and match (Activity 13)Divide the students into groups. Ask them to read the passage again and match the situations to the solutions.Check the answer and give the feedback.2. Read and complete (Activity 14)Work in groups. Read the passage carefully and fill in the form. At the same time underline the sentences in the passage.Check the answers and give the feedback.Step IV Post readingDiscuss and describe (Activity 15)Step V Writing (Activity 16)Ask the students to read the passage before filling it. Ask them to work in pairs and complete the passage. Encourage them to connect the sentences into paragraphs with conjunctions.The students who are good at English can also enrich the contents with their imagination.Step VI Homework1. Write a short passage about travel safety tips.第3课时Step I Lead-in1. Do you know the meaning of the sentences?Ask the students to translate the sentences.1. Thats how most accidents happen.2. Thats how you quickly get to know the people in your building.Guide the students to find the characteristic of the bold face.The teacher explains the definition of a predictive clause:The clause is used as a predicate nominative of a link verb. Predicative clauses begin withthat, whether, as if, who, what, which, whose, when, where, how, why.2. Read and underline (Activity 17)Ask the students to read the sentences and discuss with their partner to decide which sentences have the same structure with the bold above.Check the answers and guide the students to find out the location, the guide word, the word order and the structure of predictive clause.表语从句的定义:充当表语的从句位置:系动词后引导词:根据成分和意义确定缺什么,填什么。语序:陈述句语序构成:(系动词) + 引导词 + 简单句Pay attention to Sentence 3 is an object clause, Sentence 8 is an attributive clause.Step II Presentation1. Read and match (Activity 19)Give the students 3 minutes to match the sentences independently.After finishing the exercise, they can work in pairs to check their answers.Encourage some pairs to share their answers and give the feedback.2. Explain the grammar to the students.(1) 表语从句通常跟在以下动词之后It was because he didnt pass the exam.It seems (that) he was late for the train.It appears that she was wrong.It seems to me that we should answer for this.It appears to her that he wants to teach us all he has.(2) 引导表语从句的关联词有以下几类 that 不能省略 The fact is that he left.事实是他离开了。 The truth is that I didnt go there.事实是我没去那儿。 whetherMy question is whether he left (or not).我的问题是他是否离开了。注:if 不能引导表语从句。 wh-疑问词 (who / where / how.)My question is who left.我想问的是谁离开了。 Thats what he wants.那是他想要的。This is where they once lived.这就是他们曾经住过的地方。That is why he didnt come here.这就是他为何没到这儿来的原因。 because,as,as if,as thoughIts just because he doesnt know her. 这是仅仅因为他不认识她。Things are not always as they seem to be. 事物并不总是如其表象。He looks as if hes tired. 他好像累了。Step III Practice1. Read and complete (Activity 19)Ask the students to read the sentences and dialogue first, and then choose the probable sentences to complete the dialogue. Check the answer and give the feedback.2. Role play. Ask the students to read the dialogue in pairs. Encourage some pairs to act outthe dialogue.3. Grammar exercisesAsk the students to find the right answers.
