2020高考英语二轮阅读理解一百六十集选练(111)【由北京市丰台区2020高考模拟改编】阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。A MythIt is true that world population is growing, but this is not the cause of our current and future global problems. Believing this will cause us to ignore the real problem and risk long-term damage to our planet.Let me start by explaining why overpopulation is a myth. For one thing, the UN Population Division regularly predicts population growth but provides a low variant (变量), medium variant, and high variant to factor in various possibilities. In the 2020 revision, their high variant suggests that the world population will be almost 16 billion in 2100, but the low variant predicts it will peak at 8 billion and decrease to just over 6 billion by 2100. In most cases, it is the low variant that has come true in the past, suggesting the same will be true of their future population predictions. In addition to this, the size of families is actually decreasing. For another, if the Earth is overpopulated, there needs to be insufficient (短缺) food, water, and space for humans to live. However, Indian economist Raj Krishna estimates that India alone is able to increase crop produce to the point of providing the entire worlds food supply. The World Food Programme confirms that there is sufficient food grown to feed the world and there is the same amount of fresh water on the planet now as there was 10,000 years ago. So how is it possible that the number of people in the world is affecting our planet? Therefore, it is not an increase in population but an increase in consumption that is a severe threat. Materialism and overconsumption are facts of life for everybody in the western world, as possessions reflect a persons status in society and people strive to obtain happiness through owning the latest fashionable goods. Not only that, but waste is a common occurrence which has a huge effect on our resources. It is a sad truth that 80% of the worlds resources are currently used by just 20% of the worlds population. Our overconsumption must be addressed now to make our lives more sustainable (可持续的) and avoid continuing the terrible damage to the environment we are causing. The key is education. If we do not work towards this but instead focus on the wrong issue, we may find ourselves living on a planet that can no longer sustain human life.1. According to the author, what causes our current and future global problems?A. The increase in population.B. Shortage of food and water.C. The fast growth of material needs.D. Failure to protect the environment.2. The underlined word “myth” in Paragraph 2 is closest in meaning to _.A. fact B. misconceptionC. possibilityD. uncertainty3. Ferrari Worlds Formula Rossa, the fastest, takes riders breath away at speeds of up to150 mph. BRC Imagination Arts, a Southern California design firm, has proposed something entirely new: a ride that creates the sensation of zero gravity for up to eight seconds at a time.BRC drew its concept from the Vomit Comet, the plane NASA uses to train astronauts. Its proposed theme-park ride would travel up and then back, similar to the existing Superman: Escape from Krypton coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain in California. But unlike Superman and other open-car coasters, the vomit-comet ride would be fully enclosed. Riders would enjoy the illusion of floating within a stable chamber. To create that illusion, a special motor system would speed coasters up the track with great precision(精确度). As the coaster approached a top speed of more than 100 mph, it would suddenly and ever so slightly slow downjust enough to throw the passengers up from their seats and then quickly adjust its speed to fly in formation with and around the passengers. As the coaster reached the top of the track and began to drop back down, the computer system would continue to match its speed to that of the falling passengers, extending the sensation of weightlessness for several additional seconds, and finally rapidly slow down to a stop back at the base station.Roller coasters typically cost no more than $30 million, but the zero-gravity ride would cost $50 million or more, to a large extent because the precision-response propulsion system(推进系统) is so complex. But if someone were to write a check today, Rogers says, his company could be sending riders on weightless journeys by the end of 2020.1. What makes BRCs coaster different?A. Its the tallest roller coaster in the States.B. Its the fastest roller coaster on Earth.C. It can bring a sensation of zero gravity to its riders.D. It is a NASA product.2. Why would people in BRCs coaster have an illusion of floating in the chamber?A. Because its designed with the inspiration of Superman.B. Because a special functioning motor system is applied to it.C. Because the coaster can approach a top speed of more than 100 mph.D. Because the coaster would cost $20 million more than normal ones.3. At what point could a rider begin to feel weightless?A. When the coaster reduced its speed immediately after it reached its top speed.B. When the coaster began to increase its speed.C. When the coaster reduced its speed to a stop back at the base station.D. When the coaster reached the top of the track.4. What can we infer from the passage?A. BRC is a famous design firm.B. You feel like a superman when riding BRC coaster.C. BRCs budget cant make the project complete until 2020.D. Kingda Ka and Ferrari Worlds Formula Rossa will close down soon.【参考答案】14、CBAC2020高考训练题。阅读理解。阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。If the earths population is in growth at this rate , there will not be enough resources. By the middle of the 21st century, if present trends continue, we will have used up all the oil that drives our cars, for example. Even if scientists develop new ways of feeding the human race, the crowded conditions on the earth will make it necessary for us to look for open space somewhere else. But none of the other planets in our solar system are capable of supporting life at present. One possible solution to the problem, however, has recently been suggested by American scientist, Professor Carl Sagan.Sagan believes that before the earths resources are completely exhausted it will be possible to change the atmosphere of Venus and so create a new world almost as large as the earth itself. The difficult is that Venus is much hotter than the earth and there is only a tiny amount of water there.Sagan proposes that algae organisms(海藻有机体) that can live in extremely hot or cold atmospheres and at the same time produce oxygen, should be bred in condition similar to those on Venus. As soon as this has been done, the algae will be placed in small rockets. Spaceship will then fly to Venus and fire the rockets into the atmosphere .In a fairly short time, the algae will break down the carbon dioxide into oxygen and carbon. When the algae have done their work, the atmosphere will become cooler, but before man can set foot on Venus it will be necessary for the oxygen to produce rain. The surface of the planet will still be too hot for man to land on it but the rain will eventually fall and in a few years something like earth will be reproduced on Venus.1.In the long run, the most difficult problem caused by population growth on the earth will probably be the lack of _.A. oil B. food C. resources D. space2.Carl Sagan believes that Venus might be a living place because _A. the days on Venus are long enoughB. it might be possible to change its atmosphereC. there is a good supply of water on VenusD. its atmosphere is the same as the earths3.Algae are plants that can_.A. live in very hot temperature B. live in very cold temperatureC. produce oxygen D. all of the above4. Man can land on Venus only when_.A. it rains there B. there is oxygenC. the atmosphere becomes cooler D. the algae have done their work参考答案14、DBDA阅读下列四篇短文,从每小题后所给的A,B,C或D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。Leadership is the most significant word in todays competitive business environment because it directs the manager of a business to focus inward on their personal abilities and style. Experts on leadership will quickly point out that “how things get done” influences the success of the outcomes and indicates a right way and a wrong way to do things. When a noted leader on the art of management, Peter Drucker, coined the phrase“Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things”, he was seeking to clarify the distinctions he associates with the terms. When Stephen Covey, founder and director of the Leadership Institute, explored leadership styles in the past decade, he focused on the habits of a great number of highly effective individuals. His Seven Habits of Highly Effective People became a popular bestseller very quickly. His ideas forced a reexamination of the early leadership example, which centered on the feature that was found in the character ethic(道德准则) and the personality ethic. The former ethic suggested success was founded on modesty, loyalty, courage, patience and so on. The personality ethic suggested it was ones attitude, not behavior, that inspired success, and this ethic was founded on a belief of positive mental attitude. In contrast to each of these ideas, Covey advocates that leaders need to understand universal principles of effectiveness, and he highlights how vital it is for leaders to first personally manage themselves if they are to enjoy any hope of outstanding success in their work environments. To achieve a desired vision for your business, it is essential that you have a personal vision of where you are headed and what you value. Business leadership means that managers need to “put first things first,” which implies that before leading others, you need to be clear on your own values, abilities, and strengths and be seen as t
