Its true to say that technology makes our lives easier. However, scientists are saying that we need to give ourselves a breakotherwise we put ourselves at risk of developing hundreds of health problems. With all this free time, why not put it to good use and do something without technology? To start with, you could learn a new skill. There are hundreds of possibilities: crafts (工艺), cooking, learning a musical instrument or a new sport. Maybe youve always wanted to learn to cook for your family, but havent had time? Perhaps you feel like learning how to knit (编织), so you can have a new sweater for the autumn? You could use your free time to learn something newand perhaps it will lead to an exciting chance in the future. If you just want to relax, why not go to a beach? Take along your favorite book and relax on the sand, or go for a walk along the coastline. If you dont live near a beach, you could go to your local park. Why not take along a picnic, or try and discover some of the local wildlife?Little things, like challenging yourself to complete a crossword or a Sudoku, are a great place to start. You could even follow the latest fashion: adult coloring books! Coloring is amazing, and it can be a nice way to escape from the pressure of modern life!Whatever you choose to do with your summer, try something new! You might surprise yourself and find a hidden talent within you; you might make new friends along the way. Next time you find yourself aimlessly switching channels, have a think at what else you could spend your time doing.24According to scientists, using technology continuously may _.A. make people live longerB. solve many social problemsC. provide people with more free timeD. have a bad effect on peoples health25What is suggested in the second paragraph?A. Learning something new.B. Taking exciting chances.C. Making a living by knitting. D. Getting together with the family.26What can we learn about the Sudoku?A. Its a great tourist attraction.B. Its a challenging game.C. Its a new fashion show.D. Its a book about coloring.27Which of the following can be the best title for the text?A. Make More New Friends B. Follow the Latest FashionC. Make Plans for Summer HolidaysD. Take a Break from TechnologyCAn 18-year-old student was struggling to pay his fees. Not knowing where to get the money, he and a friend decided to host a musical concert to raise money for their education. They went to the great pianist Paderewski. His manager demanded $2,000 for the piano recital (独奏会). A deal was made and the boys began to work to make the concert a success. The big day arrived. But unfortunately, they hadnt managed to sell enough tickets. The total collection was only $1,600. Disappointed, they went to Paderewski and gave him the entire $1,600, and promised to pay him the rest $400 back as soon as possible. “No,” said Paderewski. “Keep the money you need for your fees. And just give me whatever is left.” The boys were surprised, and very thankful.Paderewski later became the Prime Minister of Poland, and he was a great leader. When the World War broke out, more than 1.5 million people went hungry, but there was no food to feed them. Paderewski turned to the US Food and Relief Administration for help. The head there was a man called Herbert Hooverwho later became the US President. Hoover agreed to help and quickly shipped tons of food to Poland.Paderewski decided to go across to thank Hoover himself. When Paderewski began to thank Hoover for his kindness, Hoover quickly stopped him and said, “You shouldnt be thanking me, Mr. Prime Minister. You may not remember this, but several years ago, you helped two young students go through college. I was one of them.”28Why did the two students decide to raise money?A. To pay for their education. B. To buy the concert tickets.C. To help people in Poland.D. To hold a musical concert.29What did the two students think of the pianist?A. Greedy. B. Humorous. C. Helpful. D. Shy.30What can we learn about Herbert Hoover?A. He was one of Paderewskis students.B. He didnt finish his college education.C. He was very rich when he was young.D. He was one of the American presidents.31What can we learn from the text?A. Great minds think alike.B. Kindness brings its own rewards.C. Honesty is the best policy.D. Where theres a will, theres a way.D“Its raining cats and dogs!” Although this phrase is not very common in England any more, it clearly shows how we dont always say what we mean. One thing that is often frustrating (灰心的) for language learners is that they understand every word in a sentence and yet the meaning remains unclearlike this sentence that actually means “its raining very heavily!” However, its not just idioms that cause difficulties for people learning English. The British are often considered to be polite but this can be very confusing for non-native speakers. We often dont say what we are thinkingin fact we often say the opposite! Heres an example that will hopefully explain what I mean: “You should come round for tea!”British people are less open than people from other cultures, so we arent as quick to invite people into our homes. This phrase is one of those that we say but often dont really mean, so when no further details are given, you can probably assume (认为) it was made in the name of politeness! But how does this compare to other countries? When I lived in India, lots of people would invite me into their homes but I always assumed that they were just being polite. Of course, I was wrong. The invitations were almost always genuine, and people expected me to visit them. I was always surprised by how welcoming people were. In fact, I think I spent more time at other peoples houses than my own!In England, we often think its polite to offer or suggest something even if we dont actually want to do it, while in other cultures people are more direct. Perhaps if English people just say what they were thinking, things would be a lot easierespecially for non-native speakers!32The example “Its raining cats and dogs!” is mentioned to show that _.A. it is time for people protect these pet animalsB. the weather condition in England is rather awfulC. what British people say is different from what they thinkD. it is difficult for non-native learner to understand idioms33What do people from other cultures think of British peoples politeness?A. Direct and honest.B. Too traditional to accept.C. Serious and formal.D. Difficult to understand.34Which of the following best explains “genuine” underlined in Paragraph 4?A. Personal.B. Real.C. Informal.D. Special.35What is the main purpose of the text?A. To encourage people to show politeness.B. To teach people how to avoid misunderstandings.C. To discuss how to learn English idioms effectively.D. To advise people to understand politeness culturally.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)ForgivenessForgiveness is a quality that is difficult to possess. When someone has deeply hurt you, it can be extremely difficult to let go of your hate. However, forgiveness is possible, and it can be surprisingly beneficial to your physical and mental health. People who forgive show less sadness, anger and stress and more hopefulness, according to a recent research.36 Try the following steps:Calm yourself. 37 You can take a couple of breaths and think of something that gives you pleasure: a beautiful scene in nature, or someone you love.Dont wait for an apology. Many times the person who hurt you does not intend to apologize. They may have wanted to hurt you or they just dont see things the same way.38 Keep in mind that forgiveness does not necessarily mean becoming friends again with the person who upset you.Take the control away from your offender(冒犯者). Rethinking about your hurt gives power to the person who caused you pain. Instead of focusing on your wounded feelings, learn to look for the love, beauty and kindness around you.39 If you understand your offender, you may realize that he or she was acting out of unawareness, fear, and even love. You may want to write a letter to yourself from your offenders point of view.Dont forget to forgive yourself. 40 But it can rob you of your self-confidence if you dont do it.A. Why should you forgive?B. How should you start to forgive?C. To make your anger die away, try a simple stressmanagement technique.D. Recognize the benefits of forgiveness.E. If you wait for people to apologize, you could be waiting an awfully long time.F. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge.G. Try to see things from your offenders angle.第三部分 英语知识运用(共三节, 满分45分)第一节 完形填空 (共20小题;每小题1分, 满分20分)阅读下面短文,从短文后所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。I think I will never forget the special day in November.
