Nothing will stop you, not even the price even if you dont have enough money, Mom or Dad will use a credit card(信用卡) to pay. But wait! Is using a credit card really that simple? There are some things you should know about using credit cards before you go shopping.11 . Credit card companies lend you money, which you are expected to pay back. They dont lend you money just to be nice, however. In fact, they make billions of dollars this way.You spend 45 dollars buying a pair of jeans on a credit card, then about a month later, the credit company sends you a bill for 45 dollars.12 . But what if you cant pay the whole bill? Usually, you are allowed to pay part of it. Lets say you pay $10 the first month. Now the credit card company begins to get money from you. They charge extra money, called interest(利息), on whatever part of the money you didnt pay.Now the $35 you still have on your bill begins to grow. Even if you dont buy anything more, by the time you get your bill the following month, you will have more than $35 to need paying back. And every day, interest keeps adding up.13 . But the good news is that a credit card is convenient. 14 . Besides, the credit card companies also offer extra services. For example, if something you bought online with your card stops working in a short time, the company may give your money back.15 . They spend more money than they can afford to pay back. Knowing how to use credit wisely will be necessary and help you to be a smart shopper.AIt is sometimes the only way to pay when you shop over the Internet.BYoud better borrow money from friends instead of using a credit card.CUsing a credit card is a way of borrowing money to buy things.DSome people get themselves in trouble with credit cards.EIf you pay the whole 45 dollars back right away, it wont cost you anything.FSo actually those jeans will end up costing you more than $ 45.GI always believe money is not everything.三、完型填空Once upon a time, the colors of the world argued.Green said, “Clearly I am the most important.I am the sign of_and hope.I am the color of grass, trees and leaves_me, all animals would die.”_said loudly.“What is the color of the sky and the sea? Being an adult means having the right to do certain things, such as getting a part-time job, voting (投票), getting married, or getting a driving license. It also means accepting the responsibilities that go along with these rights. In many countries, sixteen or eighteen is the age when a person becomes an adult. Young men and women at this age can get a part-time job, and begin to receive an income of their own. They no longer have to depend on their parents for money all the time. In Canada and America, sixteen is the age when one can get a driving license; in England, it is seventeen. There are responsibilities that go along with both of these rights. Getting a part-time job means that you have to pay income tax. Driving a car demands that you follow certain rules like buying car insurance.Voting is another right that young people enjoy when they become adults. In the United States, Canada and Britain, young people have the right to vote at the age of eighteen. With this right also comes responsibility. For young people to use their right to vote wisely, they must have an understanding of the needs of society, and they must also learn how politics work.26 . One night, there came a storm with a heavy rain and strong wind. The next morning, both of the neighbors came out to check in their gardens. The businessman saw that his plants had come out from the earth and were totally out of life. But the retired teachers plants nicely stood where they were. The businessman was surprised. He went to consult (咨询) the retired teacher. “We both grew the same plants and I cared for my plants better than you did. How could your plants still be okay?”The retired teacher smiled and said, “Because you gave your plants too much attention. You made it too easy for them to grow. But this common knowledge turns out wrong.A new study finds that the woman in the painting is actually looking out at an angle (角度) thats 15.4 degrees off to the observers right-well outside of the range that people normally believe when they think someone is looking right at them. In other words, said the study author, Horstmann, Shes not looking at you. This is somewhat ironic, because the entire phenomenon of a persons gaze (凝视) in a photograph or painting seeming to follow the viewer is called the Mona Lisa effect (效应). That effect is absolutely real, Horstmann said. If a person is illustrated or photographed looking straight ahead, even people viewing the portrait from an angle will feel they are being looked at. As long as the angle of the persons gaze is no more than about 5 degrees off to either side, the Mona Lisa effect occurs. This is important for human interaction with on screen characters. If you want someone off to the right side of a room to feel that a person on-screen is looking at him or her, you dont cut the gaze of the character to that side-surprisingly, doing so would make an observer feel like the character isnt looking at anyone in the room at all. Instead, you keep the gaze straight ahead.Horstmann and his co-author were studying this effect for its application in the creation of artificial-intelligence avatars (虚拟头像) when Horstmann took a long look at the Mona Lisa and realized she wasnt looking at him.To make sure it wasnt just him, the researchers asked 24 people to view images of the Mona Lisa on a computer screen. They set a ruler between the viewer and the screen and asked the participants to note which number on the ruler intersected (横切) Mona Lisas gaze. To calculate (估测) the angle of Mona Lisas gaze as she looked at the viewer, they moved the ruler farther from or closer to the screen during the study. Consistently, the researchers found, participants judged that the woman in the Mona Lisa portrait was not looking straight at them, but slightly off to their right. So why do people repeat the belief that her eyes seem to follow the viewer? Horstmann isnt sure. Its possible, he said, that people have the desire to be looked at, so they think the woman is looking straight at them. Or maybe the people who first created the term Mona Lisa effect just thought it was a cool name.41 . It is generally believed that the woman in the painting Mona LisaAattracts the viewers to look backBlooks at the viewers wherever they standCfixes her eyes on the back of the viewersDseems mysterious because of her eyes42 . The purpose of the experiment involving 24 people was to _.Acalculate the angle of Mona Lisas gazeBcreate artificial-intelligence avatarsCmake sure Horstmanns belief is rightDexplain how the Mona Lisa effect can be applied43 . What gaze range in a painting will cause the Mona Lisa effect?ABCD44 . What can we learn from the passage?AHorstmann thinks its cool to create the term Mona Lisa effect.BThe Mona Lisa effect contributes to the creation of artificial intelligence.CThe position of the ruler in the experiment will influence the viewers judgement.DFeeling being gazed at by Mona Lisa may be caused by the desire for attention.五、根据首字母、中文提示填空将下列句子中汉语部分译成英语,注意使用适当的形式,并将答案写在答题卡的相应位置上。45 .
