InspirationsofJackKerouac专业：英语学生姓名：陈鹤指导教师：徐红【Abstract】ManythingshavebeensaidandwrittenabouttheAmericanwriterJackKerouac.Hehadbeenregardedastheinventorofavant-gardeAmericanwriting,areligiouszealot,acorrupterofAmericanvalues,thiscenturysShakespeare,andadrunkenrambler.Inmanywaysheisallthesethingsandnotanyofthem,whatwedoknowisthatnootherwriterinthemidnineteenthcenturyhadmoreinfluenceovertheshapingofpopularAmericanculture.ThisisnotwhatKerouacsetouttoaccomplish,butwhateventuallywastheoutcomeofhiswritings.Despitehisdeepprotestagainstthemovementsinculturethathiswritingstarted,hewillforeverberememberedasthefathertothisneweraofAmericanliterature.JackKerouacledalifeofimpulsivenessthatwasillustratedinthespontaneouslanguageofhisliteraryworksandemulatedbytheBeatGeneration,agenerationofcounter-cultureyouththatsoughttochallengethestandardsofsocietyandeffectivelyleftanexampleforfutureactivistmovementsinAmerica.Throughouthisshortbutbrilliantlife,therearesomeveryimportantfactorsthatnotonlyshapedKerouacsworksandwritingstyle,butalsolargelyinfluencedhischaracterandlife.Thosefactorsincludethefriendshipwithhispeerwriters,NealCassady,AllenGinsburg,WilliamBurroughs,andGarySnyder,to,namejustafew,eachofwhomeitherinspiredorencouragedhiminthecreatingofhisworksandtheformingofhiswritingstyle.Amongthem,thesinglebiggestinfluencewasNealCassady.NealslifeandpersonahaveadirectinfluenceonKerouacswritingbygivingupmoretraditionalwritingstylesforafreeflowingspontaneousstylethatmadehimfamous.KerouacsfirstandalsothemostfamousnovelOntheRoadwhichinauguratedhiscareerasthespokesmanfortheBeatGenerationisessentiallyanautobiographicalaccountofKerouacsrecklesswanderingjourneysacrossAmericawithNeal.Cassadyinthelate1940s.JackKerouacwasalsoawriterwithspiritualpreoccupations.Heallowedreligiontobewhatitis,anintegralpartofeverythinghedid,includingwriting.Buddhism,theAsianreligionKerouachasbelieved,isanotherfactorlargelyinfluencedhislife.AsaBuddhist,Jacksawlifeasamiraclethatcouldbeunderstood.Kerouacsproseprovesitselftobeaverygoodexampleofhiswritingsasspiritualcommentary.Kerouac,whilewanderingthecountryinfreightcarsandthebacksofpick-uptrucks,sawhimselfasamoderndaysageor,bodhisatva,discoveringtheessenceofthevoidandusinghisliteratureasarecordofthesediscoveries.HisworksareawonderfulexampleofintegratingBuddhismintothedailylifeandthoughtofamanlivinginawesternculture.itisespeciallyshownintwoofhispoems:“DesolationBlues”and“TheMexicoCityBlues”.Kerouachadalifelongloveofjazz,andjazzmusicplayedanessentialroleintheformingofKerouacsuniquespontaneouswritingstyle.TheinfluenceofJazzfounditswayintoKerouacsprose,hispoetryandhismethodofthinking.Kerouacrelyforhisinspirationuponthismostbasicandgreatestexpressionofallartisticendeavor-music-andfoundthereakernelofsomethingofwhichhecouldmakeuse.Andhemadeabridgebetweenmusicandprose/poetry.Butthroughouthislife,JackKerouachasbeenanalcoholicandhealsotookalotofdrugs,alcoholanddrughavetogetherdeeplyaffectedhispersonalityandalsoplayedanimportantroleinthecreatingofhisworks.KerouacopenlyadmittedhewrotewhilehighonBenzedrine,marijuanaoralcohol.ForKerouac,literalintoxicationprovidedboththephysicalrushthatpropelledhimthroughhislongwritingsessionsandthefreedomfromhiscensoriousself.Butthisisalsowhatcausedthedeteriorationofhishealthandfinallyledtohisdeath.,JackKerouacsworksareundeniablyanintegralpartofAmericanliterature.InOntheRoad,Kerouacwrote,“somewherealongthelineheknewthepearlwouldbehandedtohim”Fictionalized,SalParadiseanticipatedthepearl,butinsteadKerouacpassesittotodaysaudience.Withexpectationsforvisionsanddreams,perhapsthisgenerationcanacceptthepe
