10、g games is one of the most useful way to develop their characteristics including physiological and psychological ones.for pupils,the game is to live,and playing games is quite essential to enhance their abilities such as perception,confidence ,intelligence and so on.they like to play all kinds of ga
11、mes which delight them and make them find their achievements and its familiar experience for them to learn a foreign language.our current atmosphere of english class is tedious and criticism of our teaching is that it cant arise interest for students.1just like eating a tasteless bread.you hate the
12、taste of that bread but you feel its a pity throw it away so you have to swallow it with anger.as our society develops faster and faster, our civil receive far more information than before and its time for us to change our staleness teaching method.game teaching has been used from an early time and
13、it really makes sense,how to design a game?how to make games more attractive?how to combine games with english studies efficiently?this thesis shows pros of game teaching and lists some examples to prove that.2 interactive review2.1 conceptwhat is game teaching method?its not like playing games simp
14、ly without any destination.the definition of this approach is to use games properly in our teaching process and make our dull,traditional teaching method becomes vivid and easy to accept.its a new,interest learning structure for students and the purpose of this learning method is to enable students
15、to learn in playing and play in learning.our students absorb knowledge and cultivate our learning interest,”pick” up our confidence to as well when trying this method.games should be full of joy and change our bad mood,but it has another advantage:to make students handle/use language well in the cou
16、rse of game.there are three basic principles in this new teaching methods:first:”staring at destined goal or main point”.our teaching goal is the start point &end point in activities.so we should focus on”what kind of english game we use to adapt students need?when should we start our activities(gam
17、es) to satisfy our students?the period of activity time we need to adjust”.the content of games we design is determined by our teaching goal cause game is a teaching “tool”in our minds and our “design”should base on our teaching task.on the one hand,activities can be interesting:to make every studen
18、t participates in gaming and share happiness or what they learn in the end of activity;on the other hand,its our duty to lead learners to “grab”the purpose of teaching and some learning skills they can develop when they experience this period.playing games aimlessly is not advised in game teaching.s
19、econd,”autonomous and cooperative principle is required.teachers need to set up the correct “view” :do not instill skills into learners mind passively,let it go.it seems unbelievable but the fact is that it really mobilizes their enthusiasm and cooperative consciousness.as they get to know a new gam
20、e,teachers play a role as organizer and join the game.when they are familiar with rules and main point,then teachers is recommended to play a role as a normal participant,not a cheerleader and encourage students during the match.only when the game accomplish such a “autonomous”,”cooperative”principl
21、e,our students can develop their learning skills initially.if we combine our english teaching together with emotional education and create activities contain “cooperative learning”segment,theres no doubt they can help each,learn from their partners as well as experiencing the collective sense of hon
22、or and develop cooperative spirit.once teachers show less patient or finish all tasks for students without letting them do their owns,students may show less interest and theyre not willing to learn some new skills as we expect.third,intuitive principle.from perspective of their psychological charact
23、ers,its better for us to use some visual aids instead of teaching some abstract,tough knowledge to draw their learning attention.one step is to use some particular,beautiful pictures,models,multimedia visual aids to start a activity.they will rather accept some specific,real objects or items than ab
24、stract ones.fourth,diversity principle.if someone keeps on playing only one game,he may feel boring and less energetic.so our designs should not stick to simple or monotonous pattern only.2.2 previous studiesa well known study announced by harley and davis have shown that students can memorize 70% o
25、f all they learn after school and 20% is absorbed in the last ten minutes.teachers need to think about their teaching method to mobilize their enthusiasms and “excavate”their inner power.”in order to make students interested in learning english and be able to communicate with other people,researches
26、 and studies have been announced since ancient greek.plato,a famous philosopher once said childrens education need to be paid more attention.game gives entertainment &it can be combined with education.in seventeenth century,an english educator john(1632-1704) thought teaching method should be relate
27、d with childrens psychology(age) so that they feel delighted.french philosopher rosseau stated that children can be free or relaxed to express their own energies in order to express their creative or talent in the eighteenth century.german educator friedrich froebel is the “creator” of childrens edu
28、cation:he started his first kindergarten in 1837 and wanted kids to express their feelings as they want.in early 20th century,game teaching has influenced a lot in western countries.at that time maria montessori,john dewey and piaget became influential educators in childrens learning.comparing with
29、western countries,our chinese regard childrens education as importance.in song dynasty,people paid much attention to their interests.zhu xi,a famous educator also stressed the importance of game teaching.after 19th century childrens education has been announced by chinese educators frequently and so
30、me of them made great progress:they summed up with lots of methods to arise their interests:team competition,sports games and so on.gu lou,an educator found that games are fulfilled with joy and beneficial to childrens psychological and physiological development.2hu shu yi,another educator encourage
31、d students to find out entertainment in learning.nowadays more and more people realize the importance and urgency of game teaching and its useful in overall education.2.3 present conditioncurrent teaching situation in primary and secondary school is a bit severe.although game teaching can make teach
32、ing task much more interesting,easy and mobilize students enthusiasm and self-consciousness,but someone denies its teaching “value” and regards it as a “trick”simply,or what he/she wants to do is to have a look and go away,thinking that game teaching is not useful to their kids studies.they recommen
33、d kids to memorize main points in textbook,do translations or else rather than game teaching.cause they do not realize the true “meaning” about game teaching,such a teaching method can not be implemented well.on the other hand,some teachers still hold conservative attitude towards game teaching.they
34、ll rather use their traditional ways to teach students.they hope students can just memorize all knowledge in a short time and get a nice result despite of their interests.such a situation can make students show less interest in study,cause they may think their textbooks are too boring,difficult to l
35、earn.when facing long sentences and tedious grammars,they may lose their interests.by contrast,some teachers realize the importance of game teaching,they simply tells jokes and makes humorous talks but what they ignore is that they do not combine games and learning together so their “game teaching”i
36、s less efficient.some seldom start activities in class,which violates the truth”game is a part of learning”.chinese government pays less attention to game teaching and put traditional teaching method at the first place.there is not enough awareness ,recognition and investments for game teaching and
37、the development of game teaching is still deficient in china.other asian countries like thailand tries this new teaching method in their chinese classes.what makes us delighted is that in some parts of china game teaching has been widely spread in teaching and makes progress.kids play different kind
38、s of games while learning english and enjoy it a lot.but these “game teaching” aim at pre-school education and primary lower grade various discipline.its one-sideness and it neglects influence the development of game teaching to cause one-sideness.another english teaching situation(not the game teac
39、hing) is that theres not enough english teachers or theyre not qualified to teach english well.and there is not much contact with primary or middle school english.learning english should start from easy to hard,but pupils absorb knowledge from textbook directly without digestion and interest.english
40、 learning&acuisition for kids is not an essential part in education examination,pupils are taught a little from the very beginning in junior high school,which makes them ignore or abandon what they learn,3 the importance and application of game teaching in junior school3.1 importancethe importance o
41、f game teaching is clear.as we know,games can help us sustain our interest and make progress in our english learning.it can not only make pupils happy,but also make them become a humorous,easy going person.it can “stimulate”childrens interest to seek for knowledge.games gives excitement and add joy
42、to the lesson by giving incentive to that language.games can help teachers to create a less stressful,relaxed environment and help kids to think about some key points widely and wisely.children can use their heads ,eyes,hands,everything they can use to solve problems instead of memorizing words or e
43、lse “mechanically “.whats more,games can make kids eager to express their own opinions and use foreign language widely.why we use games in game teaching?here are many advisable reasons including effective reasons,linguistic reasons which explain the benefits of games:first,games are motivate and ins
44、piring.when participating a game,we feel relaxed and less stressful.thinking that if we are too nervous to adapt to new environment or we dont have a “regulator”to express our stresses,the result is that we feel bored and our efficiency(learn english)will drop down.second,games give kids chance to i
45、nteract and communicate with other people.for some kids who do not like to speak or express their own opinions,games can make them outgoing,share their happiness and express their learning problems when encountering something they can not solve but afraid to “put forward”.luckily they solve problems
46、 and relationships between them and their partners will be enhanced.game provides students with various kind of writing,speaking,learning language skills and methods.for instance,pupils can play a game which need them to speak some words repeatedly.they tell a short story and then you replace some k
47、ey words which have similar pronunciations and ask them to repeat the story again.or you can “create”a stage show to ask pupils to play a role.just like real one,their facial expression can be exaggerated and they can “sing” or “dance”when performing.fourth,games help kids to sustain efforts and joy
48、s of studying a foreign language. when they finally complete a game,they can summarize some main points to learn english or other languages.they gain knowledge with their efforts and “gain”achievements from playing and learning,so its clear they are eager to try “game teaching” and learn from games.
49、last,game teaching build up a useful context for learner to study.some games are inspirational and can lead children to technical english skills or knowledge. .3.2 applicationwe can normally divide this unsolved problem into two parts:when to use this method(game teaching) and how to use our game te
50、aching in english learning.3.2.1 when to use game teachinggame can play an important role in our learning environment.games can be used as a “tool” to make class not so embarrassing and full of joys at the beginning of our learning lessons.they can “fulfill”rest of free time in class to make the con
51、tent of teaching vivid and not so boring,or it can be acted as a bit of spice which can be stirred into the environment of learning english to add happiness and variety.these are pros of game teaching and thats cool.but games can constitute a potential,development part of learning a foreign language
52、.theres an example which shows its substantial effects on teaching english or else:in presentation-practice-pronunciation structure,language tools or items are shown to students and ask them to speak,listen,read.then they are required to practice themselves using manner in which language they use is
53、 limited.for instance,students read one certain part from their reading materials(two characters explain learning habits),and the content is changed by using different language style(less manner) and two participants can express their opinions about their habits.so such a game can practice a certain
54、 language “point” or communication(interact with other participants).and it can be used as a better way to review and repeatedly learn previous language we used.the pros is that we can enhance our previous language skills and elevate our english learning skills.theres an old saying:if a man keeps ch
55、erishing his old language,so as continually to be acquiring the new,he may be the teacher of other people.”3.2.2 how to use games in language teachinghow to choose the correct game?thats the problem when teacher tries to select the appropriate,suitable games related with language skills and variety
56、kinds of participation.there are a huge number of games or activities we can choose to use and which game can be used in a game,which game is mostly suitable for the circumstance,which game can win students hearts.educators need to consider about many factors.firstly,teacher should consider the diff
57、iculty of gaming level due to students ability to learn english.the game which can be selected should fit the content of learning materials or the whole situation.anther factor teacher need to consider is learners age(low grade or high grade),outgoing or shy,high motivated or energetic to try or not
58、 willing to so and so on,cause their ability to accept a new word,new skill are totally different.and different time to start games can “lead” to a result we never expected or imagined before:morning or evening,weekdays or weekends.another essential factor i mention in my article is that teacher sho
59、uld play a role in gaming,to attract kids,students to make them feel comfortable,relaxed and want to join the game.so what teachers need to do is to prepare well for the coming activities or games,knowing rules about games and its purpose to be played,skills which can be absorbed in gaming.so they can start games without hesitating and can be a leader to lead students to the “right” way.
