8、bstract: Au/SiO2 nano-composite multilayer thin films with different thickness were prepared on a quartz substrate by magnetron plasmasputtering. The microstructure, morphology and optical properties of the films were investigated by using TEM and optical absorption spectra.Au/SiO 2×5 and Au/Si
9、O2 × 11 multilayer thin films have well-defined interface. The thickness of the multilayer was 60nm and 130nm for the thin films with 5 and 11 layers, respectively. The optical absorption peaks due to the surface plasma resonance appeared at a wavelength of 560 nm for the both Au/SiO2×5 an
10、d Au/SiO2×11 thin films. The intensity of the absorption peak increased with increasing numbers of deposition layers. The optical absorption spectra of Au/SiO2 multilayer thin films are well agreement with the theoretical optical absorption spectra calculated from rewritten Maxwell-Garnett effe
11、ctive medium theory. By Ni-dopin
15、g, not only the grain size reduces, but also the grain shape changes from nano-rods to spherical particles. The crystallization becomes better with annealing temperature increasing. The band gap energy decreases as nickel doping levelincreases. The sp-d hybridization and alloying effect due to amorp

21、rystallization, elongation and reduction, the glass with orientedarrangement of needle-like micro-nano silver particles was produced. The microstructure and the optical properties of the glass samples indifferent stages were studied by SEM-EDAX, FE-SEM and UV-Vis spectrum. The results showed that th
22、e glass after elongation and reduction exhibits excellent polarization performance in the wavelength range from 600 nm to900 nm, with an extinction ratio larger than 45 dB. The glass only elongated shows also slight polarizing performance, which may result from the formation of filament structure of
