Ella Fant was a middle-aged lady who lived with her only son John in a small houseShe(1)John very muchIn her(2)he coul

、dnt do anything(3)Every morning she would give him breakfast(4)bed and bring him the papers to(5)It isnt really true that he was too(6)to workin fact he had tried a few(7) (NMET1998)1答案D。

2答案B(选项:Ahope Beyes Chead Dbeliefs) in ones eyesin the judgement of“在某人看来”;此空与下空联系起来看,作者是要交待“在母亲眼里,儿子什么都好,从不出错”。C项in ones head则无此意。 3答案A(选项:Awrong Bgreat Cgood Dstran

4答案C(选项:Ato Bat Cin Dby) 四个选项中,A项干扰最大,give him breakfast to bed被不少学生误认为是“把早餐端到床前”。

5答案B(选项:Acheck Bread Ckeep Dsign)如果没能把握papers在此处的含意是newspapers,则可能误选A或D。

7答案D(选项:Aones Byears Ctasks Djobs) 四个选项均为名词复数,因此均可以放在a few后,但是从下面所列举的内容看(First of all,a window cleanerThen a bus conductor),此处是指tried a few jobs“试了几份工作”。 B项(a few“years”)与tried搭配不当。 How could I ever 31 him to finish unloadin

、g the car 32 screaming at me and making a scene on front of the other girls, girls I would have to spend the 33 of the year with? I knew then that Amy and I would be friends and my first year of college would be a success.

The news(1)twenty minutes laterThe gunman had(2)a car for a ride,and then(3)out the driver(1997)1答案A(选项:Acontinued Blasted Cspread Darrived 本题考查在特定的语境中对于相近词语进行辨析的能力,要求考生对同义词用法进行区别和比较,而后做出正确的选择。 本题所涉及的相近词语:continue可以表示“一直延续”(to go on over

、 a period without stopping or being interrupted),此时与last意思相同,均可以表示“延续状态”,与本句中表示“非延续性”的时间状语(twenty minutes later)相悖。但是continue还可以表示“(中断之后)重新延续”(to start again after an interruption),例如: After a break the game continuedThe film will be continued next week “中断之后重新继续”的用法正好与此处的文意相符:20分钟后关于银行抢劫案的news重新继续,

2答案D(选项:Abought Bborrowed Cstolen Dstopped) 从车上有driver及gunman对其行为看,是歹徒此前已经stopped a car (拦车)。

3答案D(选项:Asent Bfound Cleft Dpushed) 本题考查根据上下文和选项动词词义做出判断的能力。 误选A项与C项(“sentleft”out the driver)的原因仍在于没能全面把握全文大意,没有充分注意到the gunman的凶恶。 He(1)lost his job as a postman(2)he sent off

、all the letters when he should have taken them to peoples houses 1答案B(选项:Athus Beven Conce Donly) 2答案C(选项:Aeven if Bso that Cbecause Dthough) 分析整个句子,因为在这一句话中出现了3个主谓结构:(1)He lost(2)he sent off(3)he should have taken,而且句子中并未出现并列连词,由此可以判断此句肯定是一个主从复合句。

he sent off all the letters when he should have taken them to peoples houses(他把所有本来应该

“因此”差点又丢了饭碗(lost his job as a postman),“错投信”与“丢饭碗”有明显的因果关系,应选C项(because)。 Then the great day came(1)he was to march past the palace in the parade(接受检阅的队伍)。 (NMET1998)1答案C(选项:Awhere Bsince Cwhen Dtill) 此题主要考查对于连词的选用。

Todd was working at his gas station(加油站)at night when he heard over the radio that a(1)in Long Island had been(2)by an armed man who had killed the night guard and got away with 150,000 (NMET1997)1答案B(选项:Astore Bbank Cstation Dhouse) 2答案D(选项:Asearched for Bheld up Ctaken over Dbroken

Heres a fellow who just walks into a bank and helps himself to so much money。从into

第1空误选A的人是只看见了“night guard”和“so much money”,简单地推导为抢的是store。

People of Burlington are being disturbed by the sound of bellsFour students from Burlington College of Higher Education are in the bell tower of the(1)and have made up their minds to(2)the bells nonstop for two weeks as a protest(抗议)against heavy trucks which run(3)through the narrow High St

、reet (NMET1999)1答案D(选项:Acollege Bvillage Ctown Dchurch) 2答案C(选项:Achange Brepair Cring Dshake) 3答案B(选项:Anow and then Bday and night Cup and down Dover and over) 从首句的提示可以了解到本文的主题意思是:Burlington的人们一直被钟声所烦扰。

据此,应排除A.B.C,

01 During the past hundred years, the ca, the radio, the cinema,
