11、ersity, and his colleagues, who carried out the latest work, had already linked aspirin with a lower risk of certain cancers, particularly bowel （肠） cancer. But their previous work suggested people needed to take the drug for about 10 years to get any protecti on. Now the protective effect occurs mu

12、ch sooner with inthree to five years based on a new an alysis of data from 51 trials in volvi ng more tha n 77,000 patie nts. And aspiri n appears not only to reduce the risk of develop ing many differe nt cancers in the first place, but may also stop can cers spreadi ng around the body.Taking a low

13、 （75 300mg） daily dose of aspiri n appeared to cut the total nu mber of cancer cases by 25 % after only three yearsthere were nine cancer cases per 1,000 each year in the aspiri n-tak ing group, compared with 12 per 1,000 for those tak ing dummy pills. It also reduced the risk of a cancer death by 1

14、5% with in five years （and sooner if the dose was higher tha n 300mg）. And if patie nts stayed on aspiri n for Ion ger, their cancer death risk went dow n even further by 37% after five years.Low-dose aspirin also appeared to reduce the possibility that cancers, particularly bowel, would spread to o

However, Prof. Rothwell says for most fit and healthy people, the most important things they can do to reduce their lifetime cancer risk is to give up smok ing, take exercise and have a healthy diet.But experts warn that there is still no
