2、erstanding life systems.during these years" study at tsinghua university, i constantly tried to improve myself through independent reading.this kept me well informed of the latest development in biophyss whh attracts me a lot.e.schrodinger"s famous work “what is life” let me think a lot of
3、 questions in biophyss.up to now, physist have made great success in studying simple period crystals, but for the ple biologal structures possess both aperiodity and order such as dna, there still eist many challenges.why these aperiod matter can control the life strtly and precisely? why a small am
4、ount of nature catalyst-enzyme can be far more effient than plenty of man-made catalysts? is the growth of life determined by ge materials or by self-assembly or by both of them? from the book “liquid crystals and biologal structures” written by glenn h.brown and jerome j.wolken, i got deeper unders
5、tanding of biologal structures whh possess both mobility and long-range structure order, respond to a variety of eternal stimuli just like the properties of liquid crystals.the striking architecture at the molecular level shows there is a mon physal-chemal orin for all life systems.the oriented mole
6、cules in liquid crystals furnish an ideal medium for catalyt action, partularly of the ple type needed to account for growth and reproduction.water, especially the weak hydrogen bond plays crital role in all organism.it determines the protein folding, stabilizes the double heli structure of dna.if w
7、e substitute deuterium for hydrogen, the biologal system may be destroyed.many physal and mathematal roaches can be lied to biology such as the quantum mechans, non-equilibrium thermodynams, information theory.but a bas diffult by using the non-equilibrium thermodynams in biology is the spatial hete
8、rogeneity in biologal systems and the feedback eisting in all kinds of reactions and processes.condensed matter physs also concerns closely with biophyss.the theory of phase transitions and crital phenomena can be used to eplain problems such as how the temperature of the phase transition of lipids
9、from the solid state to the liquid crystalline depends on the fatty acid position.on the other hand, researches in biophyss also push forward the development of physs, lead to more lations in bions such as ai and neural worknow i am doing my diploma thesis at the institute of physs, chinese academy
10、of science.my is about investigating coherent backscattering in a random scattering medium by the he-new laser.light in certain dielectr mrostructures ehibits localized modes, similar to the localized wave function of electrons in disordered solids-anderson localization.the propagation of light in a
11、 scattering medium can be described as random walk of photons with the direction of each succeeding step determined by the laws of probability.the spans the disciplines of condensed matter physs and quantum opties.i have absorbed a lot of relative knowledge such as random walk, peroration models sto
12、chast process to prepare for my project .i think the method i dynams of chemal reactions.since my background focused on physs, mathemats, electrons, lasers and opts, i have taught myself some benning biology and chemistry courses this year, discussed them with teacher sin the dept of biologal scienc
