This theme repre

2、sents a central concern of the international community for future policy making, urban strategies and sustainable development. In 1800, 2% of the global population lived in cities. In 1950, the figure raised to 29%, in 2000, almost half the world population moved into cities, and by 2010, as estimat

3、ed by the United Nations, the urban population will account for 55% of the total human population. The emblem, depicting the image of three people-you, me, him/her holding hands together, symbolizes the big family of mankind. Inspired by the shape of the Chinese character世世(meaning the world), the d

4、esign conveys the organizers wish to host an Expo which is of global scale and which showcases the diversified urban cultures of the world. Designing:Like the mascots for huge worldwide events such as Olympics and World Cup, the mascot of World Expo is very important for interpreting the theme and e

5、xpressing the culture. The emblems and images of past World Expos have turned into the unique intangible legacy. Characer: Created from the Chinese character 人, which means people, the mascot embodies the character of Chinese culture and echoes with the designing concept of the emblem of World Expo

7、n: Within Zone A of the Expo SitePavilion FeaturesThe main structure of the China Pavilion, The Crown of the East, has a distinctive roof, made of traditional dougong or brackets, which date back more than 2,000 years. The dougong style features wooden brackets fixed layer upon layer between the top

8、 of a column and a crossbeam. This unique structural component of interlocking wooden brackets is one of the most important elements in traditional Chinese architecture. Dougong was widely used in the Spring and Autumn Period (770 BC-467 BC). Highlights of China Pavilion Highlight 1:Exploring Orient

9、al Footprint The wisdom that the ancient Chinese used to develop cities will be showcased with programs of different styles in Section One. A video played in the multimedia exhibition will tell stories about Chinas vast migration from rural to urban areas over the past 30 years of reform and opening

10、-up, peoples enthusiasm for building a better city and expectations for the future. The painting captures the daily life of people from the Song period at thecapital, Pien

13、Jing (todays Kaifeng). The theme celebrates Ching Ming Festival (Qingming Festival). The entire piece was painted in handscroll format and the content reveals the lifestyle of all stratum of the society (from rich to poor) as well as different economic activities in rural areas and the city. It offers glimpse of the custumes and architecture during the period.
