RespiratoryProtectionPage1of1INTRODUCTIONThisrespiratorprogramlaysoutstandardoperatingprocedurestoensuretheprotectionofallemployeesfromrespiratoryhazardsthroughproperselectionanduseofrespirators.Respiratorsaretobeusedonlywhereengineeringcontrolsofrespiratoryhazardsisnotfeasible,whileengineeringcontrolsarebeinginstalled,orinemergencies.ThisprogramisinaccordancewiththerequirementsofOSHA29CFR1910.134.Thecostforimplementationoftheprogramincludingmedicalevaluations,trainingandrespiratorsistheresponsibilityofKadantandthisisprovidedtothoseparticipatingintheprogramatnocosttotheemployee.RESPONSIBILITIESKadant’SafetyManagerisresponsibleformanagingtheRespiratoryProtectionProgram.TheSafetyManagerissolelyresponsibleforallfacetsoftheprogramandhasfullauthoritytomakenecessarydecisionstoensuresuccessofthisprogram.His/herauthorityincludespurchasingequipmentnecessarytoimplementandoperatetheprogram.TheSafetyManagerwilldevelopwrittendetailedinstructionscoveringeachofthebasicelementsinthisprogram,andisthesolepersonauthorizedtoamendtheseinstructions.AppropriatetrainingandexperiencethatiscommensuratewiththecomplexityoftheprogramtoadministeroroverseeourRespiratoryProtectionProgramandconducttherequiredevaluationsofprogrameffectivenessqualifytheSafetyManagerresponsibleforthisprogram.AsProgramAdministrator,theSafetyManagerreviewsthisprogramperiodicallytoensureitseffectiveness.OnlytheProgramAdministratormayamendthewrittenprogram.PROCEDURERespiratorSelectionRespiratorsareselectedonthebasisofrespiratoryhazardstowhichtheworkerisexposedandworkplaceanduserfactorsthataffectrespiratorperformanceandreliability.TheSafetyManagermakesallselections.TheSafetyManagerwilldevelopdetailedwrittenstandardoperatingproceduresgoverningtheselectionofrespiratorsusingthefollowingguidelineswhenselectinganyrespiratoringeneral:Selectandproviderespiratorsbasedonrespiratoryhazard(s)towhichaworkerisexposedandworkplaceanduserfactorsthataffectrespiratorperformanceandreliability.SelectaNIOSH-certifiedrespirator.RespiratoryProtectionPage2of1Identifyandevaluatetherespiratoryhazard(s)intheworkplace,includingareasonableestimateofemployeeexposurestorespiratoryhazard(s)andanidentificationofthecontaminant'schemicalstateandphysicalform.ConsidertheatmospheretobeImmediatelyDangeroustoLifeandHealth(IDLH)ifyoucannotidentifyorreasonablyestimateemployeeexposure.Selectrespiratorsfromasufficientnumberofrespiratormodelsandsizessothattherespiratorisacceptableto,andcorrectlyfits,theuser.WhenselectingrespiratorsforIDLHatmospheresprovidetheserespirators:AfullfacepiecepressuredemandSelfContainedBreathingApparatuscertifiedbyNIOSHforaminimumservicelifeofthirtyminutes,orAcombinationfull-facepiecepressuredemandsupplied-airrespirator(SAR)withauxiliaryselfcontainedairsupply.ProviderespiratorsNIOSH-certifiedforescapefromtheatmosphereinwhichtheywillbeusedwhentheyareusedonlyforescapefromImmediatelyDangeroustoLifeandHealth(IDLH)atmospheres.Consideralloxygen-deficientatmospherestobeIDLH.(Exception:Ifwecandemonstratethat,underallforeseeableconditions,theoxygenconcentrationcanbemaintainedwithintherangesspecifiedinTableIIof29CFR1910.134[i.e.,forthealtitudessetoutinthetable],thenanyatmosphere-supplyingrespiratormaybeused.)WhenselectingrespiratorsforatmospheresthatarenotIDLH:ProvidearespiratorthatisadequatetoprotectthehealthoftheemployeeandensurecompliancewithallotherOSHAstatutoryandregulatoryrequirements,underroutineandreasonablyforeseeableemergencysituations.Selectrespiratorsappropriateforthechemicalstateandphysicalformofthecontaminant.Forprotectionagainstgasesandvapors,provide:Anatmosphere-supplyingrespirator,oranair-purifyingrespirator,providedthat:Therespiratorisequippedwithanend-of-service-lifeindicator(ESLI)certifiedbytheNationalInstituteofOccupationalSafetyandHealth(NIOSH)forthecontaminant;orIfthereisnoESLIappropriateforconditionsinourworkplace,implementachangescheduleforcanistersandcartridgesthatisbasedonobjectiveinformationordatathatwillensurethatcanistersandcartridgesarechangedbeforetheendoftheirservicelife.Describeintherespiratorprogramtheinformationanddatarelieduponandthebasisforthecanisterandcartridgechangescheduleandthebasisforrelianceonthedata.

RespiratoryProtectionPage3of1Forprotectionagainstparticulatesprovide:Anatmosphere-supplyingrespirator;orAnair-purifyingrespiratorequippedwithafiltercertifiedbyNIOSHunder30CFRpart11asahighefficiencyparticulateair(HEPA)filter,oranair-purifyingrespiratorequippedwithafiltercertifiedforparticulatesbyNIOSHunder42CFR84;orforcontaminantsconsistingprimarilyofparticleswithmassmanageredianaerodynamicdiameters(MMAD)ofatleast2micrometers,anair-purifyingrespiratorequippedwithanyfiltercertifiedforparticulatesbyNIOSH.Thefollowingtypesofrespiratorsareinuseinthisfacilityforthefollowinguses:HAZARDRESPIRATOROXYGENDEFICIENCYImmediatelydangeroustolifeorhealth*Anypositive-pressureSelfContainedBreathingApparatus(SCBA).Combinationpositive-pressureSuppliedAirRespiratory(SAR)withauxiliaryselfcontainedairsupplyNotimmediatelydangeroustolifeorhealthAnypositive-pressureSCBAorsupplied-airrespiratorGASANDVAPORCONTAMINANTSImmediatelydangeroustolifeorhealth*Positive-pressureSCBAorSARNotimmediatelydangeroustolifeorhealthAnypositive-pressureSAR.GasMask.ChemicalcartridgerespiratorPARTICULATECONTAMINANTSAnypositive-pressureSARincludingabrasiveblastingrespirator.Poweredair-purifyingrespiratorequippedwithhigh-efficiencyfilters.Anyairpurifyingrespiratorwithaspecificparticulatefilter.GASEOUSANDPARTICULATECONTAMINANTSImmediatelydangeroustolifeorhealth*Positive-pressureSCBA.CombinationpositivepressureSARwithauxiliaryself-containedairsupplyNotimmediatelydangeroustolifeorhealthAnypositive-pressuresupplied-airrespiratory.GasMask.Chemical-cartridgerespiratorRespiratoryProtectionPage4of1ESCAPEFROMCONTAMINATED SCBA*NOTE:Immediatelydangeroustolifeorhealthisanyconditionthatposeseitheranimmediatethreattolifeorhealthoranimmediatethreatofsevereexposuretocontaminants,suchasradioactivematerials,whicharelikelytohaveadversedelayedeffectsonhealth.OnlyNIOSH-certifiedrespiratorsareselectedandused.Wherepracticable,therespiratorswillbeassignedtoindividualworkersfortheirexclusiveuse.Whenrespiratorsareusedinanon-hazardousatmospherevoluntarilyfittestingisnotrequired.InthesesituationsdisposableNIOSHapprovedrespiratorsareprovidedtotheemployee.MedicalEvaluationsAmedicalevaluationtodeterminewhetheranemployeeisabletouseagivenrespiratorisanimportantelementofaneffectiveRespiratoryProtectionProgramandisnecessarytopreventinjuries,illnesses,andeven,inrarecases,deathfromthephysiologicalburdenimposedbyrespiratoruse.Thismedicalevaluationisprovidedatnocosttotheemployee.Employeeswillnotbeassignedtotasksrequiringuseofrespiratorsnorfittestedunlessithasbeendeterminedthattheyarephysicallyabletoperformtheworkandusetherespirator.AphysiciansgroupchosenbyKadantmanagementwillperformmedicalevaluationsusingamedicalquestionnairefoundinSections1and2,PartAofAppendixCof29CFR1910.134.Allmedicalquestionnairesandexaminationsareconfidentialandhandledduringtheemployee'snormalworkinghoursoratatimeandplaceconvenienttotheemployee.Themedicalquestionnaireisadministeredsothattheemployeeunderstandsitscontent.AllemployeesareprovidedanopportunitytodiscussthequestionnaireandexaminationresultswiththeirPrimaryLicensedHealthCareProvider(PLHCP).ContacttheSafetyManagerforacopyofyourconfidentialmedicalevaluationorquestionnaire.Beforeanyinitialexaminationorquestionnaireisgiven,wesupplythePLHCPwiththefollowinginformationsothathe/shecanmakethebestrecommendationconcerninganemployee'sabilitytousearespirator:Typeandweightoftherespiratortobeusedbytheemployee;Durationandfrequencyofrespiratoruse(includinguseforrescueandescape);Expectedphysicalworkeffort;Additionalprotectiveclothingandequipmenttobeworn;Temperatureandhumidityextremesthatmaybeencountered.OncethePLHCPdetermineswhethertheemployeehastheabilitytouseornotusearespirator,he/shesendsKadantawrittenrecommendationcontainingonlythefollowinginformation:RespiratoryProtectionPage5of1Limitationsonrespiratoruserelatedtothemedicalconditionoftheemployee,orrelatingtotheworkplaceconditionsinwhichtherespiratorwillbeused,includingwhetherornottheemployeeismedicallyabletousetherespirator;Theneed,ifany,forfollow-upmedicalevaluations;andAstatementthatthePLHCPhasprovidedtheemployeewithacopyofthePLHCP'swrittenrecommendation.Follow-upmedicalexamination:Afollow-upmedicalexaminationmaybeprovidedifapositiveresponseisgiventoanyquestionamongquestions1through8inSection2,PartAofAppendixCof29CFR1910.134orifanemployee'sinitialmedicalexaminationdemonstratestheneedforafollow-upmedicalexamination.Ourfollow-upmedicalexaminationincludestests,consultations,ordiagnosticproceduresthatthePLHCPdeemsnecessarytomakeafinaldetermination.IftherespiratorisanegativepressurerespiratorandthePLHCPfindsamedicalconditionthatmayplacetheemployee'shealthatincreasedriskiftherespiratorisused,ourcompanywillprovideapoweredairpurifyingrespirator(PAPR)ifthePLHCP'SMedicalevaluationfindsthattheemployeecanusesucharespirator.Ifasubsequentmedicalevaluationfindsthattheemployeeismedicallyabletouseanegativepressurerespirator,thenwearenolongerrequiredtoprovideaPAPR.AdditionalMedicalExaminationsOurcompanyprovidesadditionalmedicalevaluationsif:Anemployeereportsmedicalsignsorsymptomsthatarerelatedtoabilitytousearespirator;APLHCP,supervisor,ortherespiratorprogramadministratorinformstheemployerthatanemployeeneedstobereevaluated;Informationfromtherespiratoryprotectionprogram,includingobservationsmadeduringfittestingandprogramevaluation,indicatesaneedforemployeereevaluation;orAchangeoccursinworkplaceconditions(e.g.,physicalworkeffort,protectiveclothing,andtemperature)thatmayresultinasubstantialincreaseinthephysiologicalburdenplacedonanemployee.SeetheMedicalSurveillanceSectionformoreinformationonKadant’MedicalSurveillanceProgram.RespiratoryProtectionPage6of1FitTestingProceduresItisobviousthatrespiratorsmustfitproperlytoprovideprotection.Ifatightsealisnotmaintainedbetweenthefacepieceandtheemployee'sface,contaminatedairwillbedrawnintothefacepieceandbebreathedbytheemployee.Fittestingseekstoprotecttheemployeeagainstbreathingcontaminatedambientairandisoneofthecoreprovisionsofourrespiratorprogram.Ingeneral,fittestingmaybeeitherqualitativeorquantitative.Qualitativefittesting(QLFT)involvestheintroductionofagas,vapor,oraerosoltestagentintoanareaaroundtheheadoftherespiratoruser.Ifthatusercandetectthepresenceofthetestagentthroughsubjectivemeans,suchasodor,taste,orirritation,therespiratorfitisinadequate.Inaquantitativerespiratorfittest(QNFT),theadequacyofrespiratorfitisassessedbymeasuringtheamountofleakageintotherespirator,eitherbygeneratingatestaerosolasatestatmosphere,usingambientaerosolasatestagent,orusingcontrollednegativepressuretomeasurethevolumetricleakrate.AppropriateinstrumentationisrequiredtoquantifyrespiratorfitinQNFT.Kadantmakesurethoseemployeesarefittestedatthefollowingtimeswiththesamemake,model,style,andsizeofrespiratorthatwillbeused:Beforeanyofouremployeesarerequiredtouseanyrespiratorwithanegativeorpositivepressuretight-fittingfacepiece;Wheneveradifferentrespiratorfacepiece(size,style,model,ormake)isused;AtleastannuallyWhenevertheemployeereports,orourcompany,PLHCP,supervisor,orSafetyManagermakesvisualobservationsofchangesintheemployee'sphysicalconditionthatcouldaffectrespiratorfit.Suchconditionsinclude,butarenotlimitedto,facialscarring,dentalchanges,cosmeticsurgery,oranobviouschangeinbodyweight;andWhentheemployee,afterpassingaQLFTorQNFT,notifiesthecompany,ProgramAdministrator,supervisor,orPLHCPthatthefitoftherespiratorisunacceptable.Thatemployeewillberetestedwithadifferentrespiratorfacepiece.Employeesmustpassoneofthefollowingfittesttypesthatfollowtheprotocolsandprocedurescontainedin29CFR1910.134AppendixA:QLFT(Onlyusedtofittestnegativepressureair-purifyingrespiratorsthatmustachieveafitfactorof100orless.Maybeusedtotesttight-fittingatmosphere-supplyingrespiratorsandtight-fittingpoweredair-purifyingrespiratorsiftestedinthenegativepressuremode);orQNFT(Maybeusedtofittestatight-fittinghalffacepiecerespiratorthatmustachieveafitfactorof100orgreaterORatight-fittingfullfacepiecerespiratorthatmustachieveafitfactorof500orgreaterORtight-fittingatmosphere-supplyingrespiratorsandtight-fittingpoweredair-purifyingrespiratorsiftestedinthenegativepressuremode).RespiratoryProtectionPage7of1RespiratorTrainingEmployeesaretobetrainedintherespiratoryhazardstowhichtheyarepotentiallyexposedduringroutineandemergencysituations,andintheproperuseofrespirators,includingputtingonandremovingthem,anylimitationsontheiruse,andtheirmaintenance.Thetrainingmustbecomprehensive,understandable,andbepriortorequiringtheemployeetousearespiratorintheworkplace.Retrainingistobeadministeredannually,andwhenthefollowingsituationsoccur:Changesintheworkplaceorthetypeofrespiratorrenderprevioustrainingobsolete;Inadequaciesintheemployee'sknowledgeoruseoftherespiratorindicatethattheemployeehasnotretainedtherequisiteunderstandingorskill;OR,Anyothersituationarisesinwhichretrainingappearsnecessarytoensuresaferespiratoruse.Eachemployeeistodemonstrateknowledgeofatleastthefollowing:Whytherespiratorisnecessaryandhowimproperfit,usage,ormaintenancecancompromisetheprotectiveeffectoftherespirator;Whatthelimitationsandcapabilitiesoftherespiratorare;Howtousetherespiratoreffectivelyinemergencysituations,includingsituationsinwhichtherespiratormalfunctions;Howtoinspect,putonandremove,use,andcheckthesealsoftherespirator;Whattheproceduresareformaintenanceandstorageoftherespirator;Howtorecognizemedicalsignsandsymptomsthatmaylimitorpreventtheeffectiveuseofrespirators;andThegeneralrequirementsoftheOSHARespiratoryProtectionStandard.ProperUseProceduresOncetherespiratorhasbeenproperlyselectedandfitted,itsprotectionefficiencymustbemaintainedbyproperuseinaccordancewith29CFR1910.134(g).Kadantensurewithwrittenproceduresthatrespiratorsareusedproperlyintheworkplace.FacePieceSealProtectionDonotpermitrespiratorswithtight-fittingfacepiecestobewornbyemployeeswhohave:Facialhairthatcomesbetweenthesealingsurfaceofthefacepieceandthefaceorthatinterfereswithvalvefunction;orAnyconditionthatinterfereswiththeface-to-facepiecesealorvalvefunction.Ifanemployeewearscorrectiveglassesorgogglesorotherpersonalprotectiveequipment,ensurethatsuchequipmentisworninamannerthatdoesnotinterferewiththesealofthefacepiecetothefaceoftheuser.Foralltight-fittingrespirators,ensurethatemployeesperformausersealcheckeachtimetheyputontherespiratorusingtheproceduresin29CFR1910.134AppendixB-1(UserSealCheckProcedures)orproceduresrecommendedbytherespiratormanufacturerthatyoucoulddemonstrateareaseffectiveasthoseinAppendixB-1.RespiratoryProtectionPage8of1ContinuingRespiratorEffectivenessAppropriatesurveillanceofworkareaconditionsanddegreeofemployeeexposureorstressmustbemaintained.Whenthereisachangeinworkareaconditionsordegreeofemployeeexposureorstressthatmayaffectrespiratoreffectiveness,reevaluatethecontinuedeffectivenessoftherespirator.Ensurethatwhenemployeesleavetherespiratorusearea:Washtheirfacesandrespiratorfacepiecesasnecessarytopreventeyeorskinirritationassociatedwithrespiratoruse;orIftheemployeedetectsvapororgasbreakthrough,changesinbreathingresistance,orleakageofthefacepiece,replaceorrepairtherespiratorbeforeallowingtheemployeetoreturntotheworkarea.ProceduresforIDLHAtmospheres:WhenneededanattendantwillbelocatedoutsidetheIDLHatmosphere;Visual,voice,orsignallinecommunicationismaintainedbetweentheemployee(s)intheIDLHatmosphereandtheemployee(s)locatedoutsidetheIDLHatmosphere;Theemployee(s)locatedoutsidetheIDLHatmospherearetrainedandequippedtoprovideeffectiveemergencyrescue;Theemployerordesigneeisnotifiedbeforetheemployee(s)locatedoutsidetheIDLHatmosphereentertheIDLHatmospheretoprovideemergencyrescue;Theemployerordesigneeauthorizedtodosobythecompany,oncenotified,providesnecessaryassistanceappropriatetothesituation;Employee(s)locatedoutsidetheIDLHatmospheresareequippedwith:PressuredemandorotherpositivepressureSCBAs,orapressuredemandorotherpositivepressuresupplied-airrespiratorwithauxiliarySCBA;andeither:Appropriateretrievalequipmentforremovingtheemployee(s)whoenter(s)thesehazardousatmosphereswhereretrievalequipmentwouldcontributetotherescueoftheemployee(s)andwouldnotincreasetheoverallriskresultingfromentry;orEquivalentmeansforrescuewhereretrievalequipmentisnotrequiredunderthebulletitemabovethisone.RespiratoryProtectionPage9of1RespiratorsforIDLHatmospheres.ThefollowingrespiratorswillbeusedinIDLHatmospheres:AfullfacepiecepressuredemandSCBAcertifiedbyNIOSHforaminimumservicelifeofthirtyminutes,orAcombinationfullfacepiecepressuredemandsupplied-airrespirator(SAR)withauxiliaryselfcontainedairsupplyCompressedbreathingairshallmeetatleasttherequirements:CompressedandliquidoxygenshallmeettheUnitedStatesPharmacopoeiarequirementsformedicalorbreathingoxygen;andGradeDbreathingairdescribedinANSI/CompressedGasAssociationCommoditySpecificationforAir,G-7.1-1989,toincludeOxygencontent(v/v)of19.5-23.5%;Hydrocarbon(condensed)contentof5milligramspercubicmeterofairorlessCarbonmonoxide(CO)contentof10ppmorlessCarbondioxidecontentof1,000ppmorless;andLackofnoticeableodor.CylindersusedtosupplybreathingairtorespiratorsmeetthefollowingrequirementsCylindersaretestedandmaintainedasprescribedintheShippingContainerSpecificationRegulationsoftheDepartmentofTransportation(49CFR173andpart178);CylindersofpurchasedbreathingairhaveacertificateofanalysisfromthesupplierthatthebreathingairmeetstherequirementsforGradeDbreathingair;andThemoisturecontentinthecylinderdoesnotexceedadewpointof-50deg.F(-45.6deg.C)at1atmospherepressureCompressorsusedtosupplybreathingairtorespiratorsareconstructedandsituatedsoasto:Prevententryofcontaminatedairintotheair-supplysystemMinimizemoisturecontentsothatthedewpointat1atmospherepressureis10degreesF(-5.56deg.C)belowtheambienttemperatureHavesuitablein-lineair-purifyingsorbentbedsandfilterstofurtherensurebreathingairquality.Sorbentbedsandfiltersshallbemaintainedandreplacedorrefurbishedperiodicallyfollowingthemanufacturer'sinstructionsHaveatagcontainingthemostrecentchangedateandthesignatureofthepersonauthorizedbytheemployertoperformthechange.ThetagshallbemaintainedatthecompressorRespiratoryProtectionPage10of1Forcompressorsthatarenotoil-lubricated,theemployershallensurethatcarbonmonoxidelevelsinthebreathingairdonotexceed10ppm.Foroillubricatedcompressors,theemployershalluseahigh-temperatureorcarbonmonoxidealarm,orboth,tomonitorcarbonmonoxidelevels.Ifonlyhigh-temperaturealarmsareused,theairsupplyshallbemonitoredatintervalssufficienttopreventcarbonmonoxideinthebreathingairfromexceeding10ppm.Theemployershallensurethatbreathingaircouplingsareincompatiblewithoutletsfornonrespirableworksiteairorothergassystems.Noasphyxiatingsubstanceshallbeintroducedintobreathingairlines.AllbreathinggascontainersmarkedinaccordancewiththeNIOSHrespiratorcertificationstandard,42CFRpart84Notes:OneofthetwoindividualslocatedoutsidetheIDLHatmosphereasattendantmaybeassignedtoanadditionalrole,suchasincidentcommanderinchargeoftheemergencyorsafetyofficer,solongasthisindividualisabletoperformassistanceorrescueactivitieswithoutjeopardizingthesafetyorhealthofanyemployeeworkingattheincident.NothinginthisProperUseProceduressectionismeanttopreventatrainedemergencyresponderfromperformingemergencyrescueactivitiesbeforeanentireteamhasassembled.MaintenanceandCareProceduresInordertoensurecontinuingprotectionfromrespiratoryprotectivedevices,itisnecessarytoestablishandimplementpropermaintenanceandcareproceduresandschedules.Acarelessattitudetowardmaintenanceandcarewillnegatesuccessfulselectionandfitbecausethedeviceswillnotdelivertheassumedprotectionunlesstheyarekeptingoodworkingorder.Cleaning&DisinfectingOurcompanyprovideseachrespiratoruserwitharespiratorthatisclean,sanitary,andingoodworkingorder.Weensurethatrespiratorsarecleanedanddisinfectedusingtheproceduresbelow:InAppendixB-2of29CFR1910.134.Seethisattachedappendix-Recommendedbytherespiratormanufacturer.Seetheseattachedprocedures.TheseproceduresareofequivalenteffectivenessasAppendixB-2of29CFR1910.134.Therespiratorsarecleanedanddisinfectedatthefollowingintervals:RespiratorTypeAreCleanedAndDisinfectedAtTheFollowingIntervalIssuedfortheexclusiveuseofanemployeeIssuedtomorethanoneemployeeMaintainedforemergencyuseUsedinfittestingandtrainingAsoftenasnecessarytobemaintainedinasanitaryconditionBeforebeingwornbydifferentindividualsAftereachuseAftereachuseStorageStorageofrespiratorSafetyManagemustbedoneproperlytoensurethattheequipmentisprotectedandnotsubjecttoenvironmentalconditionsthatmaycausedeterioration.Weensurethatrespiratorsarestoredtoprotectthemfromdamage,contamination,dust,sunlight,extremetemperatures,excessivemoisture,anddamagingchemicals,andtheyarepackedorstoredinsturdycontainertopreventdeformationofthefacepieceandexhalationvalve.Inaddition,emergencyrespiratorsarekeptaccessibletotheworkarea;storedincontainersthatareclearlymarkedascontainingemergencyrespirators;andstoredinaccordancewithanyapplicablemanufacturerinstructions.InspectionInordertoassurethecontinuedreliabilityofrespiratorequipment,itmustbeinspectedonaregularbasis.Thefrequencyofinspectionisrelatedtothefrequencyofuse.Frequenciesforinspectionareasfollows:RespiratorTypeInspectedAtTheFollowingFrequenciesAlltypesusedinroutinesituationsMaintainedforuseinemergencysituationsBeforeeachuseandduringcleaningAtleastmonthlyandinaccordancewiththemanufacturer'srecommendations,&checkedforproperfunctionbefore&aftereachuseRespiratorinspectionsincludechecks:Forrespiratorfunction,tightnessofconnections,andtheconditionofthevariouspartsincluding,butnotlimitedto,thefacepiece,headstraps,valves,connectingtube,andcartridges,canistersorfilters;andOfelectrometricpartsforpliabilityandsignsofdeterioration.Forself-containedbreathingapparatus,inadditiontotheabove,monthly,wemaintainairandoxygencylindersinafullychargedstateandrechargewhenthepressurefallsto90%ofthemanufacturer'srecommendedpressurelevelanddeterminethattheregulatorandwarningdevicesfunctionproperly.Additionalrespiratorsmaintainedforemergencyuse,willbecertifiedbydocumentingthedatetheinspectionwasperformed,thename(orsignature)ofthepersonwhomadetheinspection,thefindings,requiredremedialaction,andaserialnumberorothermeansofidentifyingtheinspectedrespirator.Thisinformationshallbemaintaineduntilreplacedfollowingasubsequentcertification.(Seetheattachedrespiratorinspectionrecords)RepairsRespiratorsthatfailaninspectionorareotherwisefoundtobedefectiveareremovedfromservice,andarediscardedorrepairedoradjustedinaccordancewiththefollowingprocedures:RespiratoryProtectionPage12of1Repairsmustbemadeaccordingtothemanufacturer'srecommendationsandspecificationsforthetypeandextentofrepairstobeperformed;andReducingandadmissionvalves,regulators,andalarmsmustbeadjustedorrepairedonlybythemanufactureroratechniciantrainedbythemanufacturer.Discardingofrespirators-respiratorsthatfailaninspectionorareotherwisenotfitforuseandcannotberepairedmustbediscarded.OtherRespiratorMaintenanceOtherrespiratormaintenanceproceduresandschedulesinclude:AirQualityProceduresWhenatmosphere-supplyingrespiratorsarebeingusedtoprotectemployeesitisessentialtoensurethattheairbeingbreathedisofsufficientlyhighquality.Toensureadequateairquality,quantity,andflowofbreathingair
