MemorisofaGeishaisa2005filmadaptationofthenovelofthesamename.ItwasdirectedbyRobMarshallandstarsZhangZiyi,KenWatanabe(渡边谦),GongLi,MichelleYeoh(杨紫琼)etc.Plot:thestorybeginsinapoorfishingvillagein1929,whenSayuri,thenine-year-oldgirlwithunusualblue-grayeyesistakenfromherhomeandsoldintoslaverytoarenowned(著名的)geishahouse.Wewitnesshertransformationasshelearnstherigorous(严格的)artsofthegeisha.DespitethetreacherousHatsumomo(GongLi)(奸诈的初桃)whonearlybreaksherspirit,thegirlblossomsintoalegendarygeishaundertheguidanceofhermentorMameha真羽美(MichelleYeoh).Beautifulandaccomplished,Sayuricaptivates(迷住)themostpowerfulmenofherday,butishauntedbyhersecretlovefortheonemanwhoisoutofherreach,themysteriousChairman(KenWatanabe).BriefintroductionGeishaSkills:Geisha(芸者),geiko(芸子)orgeigi(芸妓)aretraditional,femaleJapaneseentertainerswhoseskillsincludeperformingvariousJapaneseartssuchasclassicalmusicanddance,wearingkimono(和服),elaboratemakeup(细心化妆)andhair.Prostitutes(妓女)VSgeisha:Ageisha'ssexandlovelifeisusuallydistinctfromherprofessionallife.Asuccessfulgeishacanentrancehermalecustomerswithmusic,dance,andconversation.Theyaredefinitelynotsubmissiveandsubservientandtheyholdhighsocialstatus.Geishaaresinglewomen,thoughtheymayhaveloversorboyfriendswhomtheyhavepersonallypicked,whosupportthemfinancially.Thethreeleadingnon-Japaneseactresses(ZhangZiyi,GongLi,andMichelleYeoh)wereputthrough"geishabootcamp"beforeproductioncommenced,duringwhichtheyweretrainedintraditionalgeishapracticesofmusicianship,dance,andteaceremony.Pre-productionSayuri:Theheartdiesaslowdeath,sheddingeachhopelikeleaves,untilonedaytherearenone.Nohopes,nothingremains.
