Materials:Whiteboard,markers,flashcards,worksheets.

Introduction(5minutes):

Greetthestudentsandaskthemiftheyliketoeatfood.Encouragethemtosharetheirfavoritefoodswiththeclass.Writethewords"food"and"eat"ontheboardandaskthestudentstobrainstormwordsthattheyassociatewiththesetopics.

Presentation(20minutes):

Showthestudentsaselectionofflashcardsdepictingdifferenttypesoffood,suchasfruits,vegetables,meats,andsnacks.Askthestudentstonameeachofthefoodsandrepeatthenamesseveraltimestohelpthemrememberthevocabulary.Encouragethestudentstoaskquestionsiftheydon'tknowthemeaningofaparticularword.

Practice(20minutes):

Distributeaworksheetaskingthestudentstocategorizethedifferenttypesoffoodintogroupssuchasfruits,vegetables,grains,meats,dairy,andsnacks.Asthestudentsworkontheworksheet,walkaroundtheroomandaskthemquestionstoassesstheirunderstandingofthevocabulary.

Production(10minutes):

Askthestudentstoworkinpairsandcreateabalancedmealplanforoneday.Theyshouldincludefoodsfromeachofthesixcategories,andtrytoselectavarietyofdifferentfoods.EncouragethestudentstouseEnglishvocabularywhendiscussingtheirmealplanswiththeirpartners.

Conclusion(5minutes):

Wrapupthelessonbyaskingeachstudenttoshareonethingtheylearnedaboutfoodtoday.Remindthestudentstoeatahealthy,balanceddiet,andtotrynewfoodswheneverpossible.Collecttheworksheetsforassessmentpurposes.
