Inthethirdplace,strictadherencetothespeakersadvicewouldsurelyleadtoill-conceivedideas,concepts,andtheories.Why?Anideaorconceptconjuredupwithoutthebenefitofdataamountstolittlemorethantheconjurershopesanddesires.Accordingly,conjurerswilltendtoseekoutfactsthatsupporttheirprejudicesandopinions,andoverlookoravoidfactsthatrefutethem.Onetellingexampleinvolvestheoriesaboutthecenteroftheuniverse.Understandably,weego-drivenhumanswouldpreferthattheuniverserevolvearoundus.Earlytheoriespresumedsoforthisreason,andfactsthatrancontrarytothisego-driventheorywereignored,whileobserversofthesefactswerescornedandevenvilified.Inshort,studentswhostrictlyfollowthespeakersprescriptionareunlikelytocontributesignificantlytotheadvancementofknowledge.
