BeforetheIMFloancouldbeagreed,Icelandhadtocommittoguaranteeingtoeachdepositortheminimumpaymentof20,887,asstipulatedunderEuropeanEconomicArea(EEA)legislationthatallowedIcelandicbankstooperateintheEU.Precisedetailsofhowalltherefundswillbemadearestilltobefinalized,althoughitwasstressedthattoday'sIMFloanwillnotbeusedtorepaydepositors.TheUKhasloaned$3.3billiontoIcelandtocovertheestimated300,000BritishdepositorsinIcesave.Inajointstatement,theBritish,DutchandGermangovernmentsindicatedthatthecountrieswillallworktogether"toconcludeagreementsonpre-financingthatenablesIcelandtomeetitsobligationstowarddepositorsshortly."
