withaletterfromBeijingtoaceseveralthousandkilometersfromtheForbiddenCity,whichwouldrequiremuchtimeandbeverydifficult.Currently,however,makingaephonecallallowspeopletobeincontactwiththeirfamiliesorfriendseveninremoteces.Therefore,theinfluenceofephonehasnotbeenminimal.Inconclusion,itisinadequatetosimplysaythattheephonehashadagreaterinfluenceonpeople‟slivesthantheevisionbecausebothhavesomeoutstandingfunctionsthattheotherdoesnot.Consequently,Isubscribetotheopinionthatthetwoobjectshavebothhadasignificantbearingonpeople‟slives.Somepeopleargueusingacleanerenergytoprotecttheenvironment,butsomepeoplesaysthetraditionalenergysourcessuchascoalandoilislessexpensive,whatisyoursuggestion?Whenitcomestodebatesaboutcleanenergy,Ialwaysfallonthesideofsupportingmoreexpensivebutsustainableenergyprojects.Firstofall,mostofthelessexpensiveenergysourcessuchascoalandoilareprettylimited,andthesoonerwecanourselvesfromrelianceontheseenergysourcesthebetter.Everybodyknowsthis,thoughfewpeoplethinkaboutitintheirday-to-dayexistence.Thisisbecausehumansaregenerallyshort-sighted,and"limited"doesn'tseemlikesuchaproblemifit'snotsomethingwehavetofaceinourownlifetimes.Butresearchshowsthatcurrentgenerationmaylivetowitnesspeakoilandcoalproduction—thatis,thepointwhenoilandcoalproductionreachtheir andthenquicklydecline.Oncethefoundationofdirtyenergycrumbles,allofthepower-hungryinfrastructurewe‟vebuiltontopofitwillcollapse,too.Cleanenergyismoresustainableandcanhelpusavoidthissuddencollapse.Secondofall,eventhoughcleanersourcesofenergyseemmoreexpensivetodevelopandrun,Ibelievethatthisisonlyintheshortterm.Dirtyenergyproductionhashiddencoststhatonlyshowupyearsordecadeslater.Environmentaldamageisoneofthesecosts—companiesandernmentsarealreadyspendingbillionsormoreayeartryingtoreversethedamagewe'vecausedtos,rivers,oceans,etc.TheBPoilspillisoneprominentexampleofthis.Butthere'salsotheissueofhumanhealth—inAmericaalone,the"healthcost”ofcoalproductionrunsinthehundredsofbillions.Thiscomprisescostscomingfromminingaccidentsaswellaslarge-scaleimpactsduetoclimatechangeandhumanexposuretopollution.Forthesereasons,Idon'tthinkthe“dirtyenergyischeaper"argumentisallthatsound.Ofcourse,thisoppositiontodirtyenergycanseemunfairtopoorercountries,whichmaynothavethemeanstopursueorsustaincleanenergyprojects.Thesecountriesmightfeelcheated,thinking,"Today'sdevelopedcountrieswereallgivenashotatcoal-andoil-fueledgrowthinthepast—whyaren'twebeinggiventhesamechance?"WhileIcansympathize,Ithinkthesecountriescanactuallybestservetheirinterestsbytakingthelongview,itcanbetemptingtomimicthepaststrategiesoffirst-worldcountries—afterall,theirmethodsseemtohavepaidoff.Butwealsohavetolookatthepricesthesecountriesarenowpayingforthatdirtygrowth—environmentaldamage,healthproblems,andalevelofenergyconsumptionthatcannotbesustained.Develocountriescansavethemselvesafairamountofheadachesiftheyjustgetofftoacleanstart.Theargumentsforcleanenergyaremany.However,theyallhingeonlong-termratherthanshort-termbenefits.Ifwecancorrectournear-sightedness,thenthereisstillhopeforthefuture.Inordertohelphighschoolstudentslearnthesenseofresponsibility,itisnecessaryforthemtodohouseholdworkafterschool.Thesenseofresponsibilityisofessenceforanypeopleatanyage.Withoutit,peoplewilljustlostthepassionforlearningmorethingsandextendone‟sstrengthtogofurther.Tohighschoolstudents,theyarestillattheirearlystageoflife,soiftheycancultivatethesenseofresponsibilityatsuchagebylearningfromhouseholdworkafterschool,theycanachievetheirgoalseasierdowntheroad.Tobeginwith,highschoolstudentscanlearnmoreaboutthingsthatarenottaughtatschool.nghouseholdworkafterschoolenablesyoungstudentstoknowwhattheirparentsarengforthem.Forsomehighschoolkids,whattheyaretoldtodoistostudyandattainagoodscoreforaprestigiousschool.Thisviewpointmakesthemnarrow-mindabouttheworld.ngthedishes,forexample,makesyoungchildrenawarethatitisnotaneasyjob.Keethelivingroomcleanorngthelaundryenablesthemtoappreciatewhattheirparentsdoforthem;inturn,theywillcareaboutotherpeoplemore.Thosethingsarenottypicallytaughtatschool.Bylearningthesehouseholdchores,theycanalsolearnthesenseofresponsibilityiftheycannotfinishthingsontimeorinatidyway.Needingtolearnthebasicwayofngthosethings,theycanlearntoberesponsiblefortheirownchoresandtheirstudyatschool.Whensuchsenseofresponsibilityislearnedintheyoungage,theywillbemorepassionatetofulfilltheirjobsinthefuture.Theyknowthisistheirresponsibilityandtheyneedtotakecareofitnomatterhow.Secondly,nghouseholdworkcanmotivateyoungstudentstodobetterthingsinthefuture.Researchhasshownthatmotivationisrelatedtowhetherornotstudentshaveopportunitiestobeautonomousandtomakeimportantacademicchoices.Havingchoicesallowschildrentofeelthattheyhavecontrolorownershipovertheirownlearning.This,inturn,helpsthemdevelopasenseofresponsibility.Inotherwords,nghouseholdchores,studentshavetolearnvariouschoresthatarenotcommontothemapartfromtheiracademicworkatschool.Byfinishingassignedhouseholdwork,theyfeelasenseoffulfillment,whichissomethingliketheyhaveachievedsomethingtheysetupasschedule.Thisisaprocessoflearningthesenseofresponsibility.Forinstance,biggersuccessesoflifeareaccumulatedbynumeroussmallersuccesses.Duringtheircompletinghouseholdwork,suchasmopthefloororrecycling,theywillfeelmotivatedtodolearnmoreanddobetter.Eachtimetheyfinishwhattheyareassignedbytheirparents;eachtimetheyfeelthesenseofresponsibilitybeinglearned.Thefeelingofcompletingthingswillhelpstudentsgainnotjustsenseofresponsibilitybutconfidence,whichisalsoessentialtotheirlife.Inaddition,participatinginhouseholdchoresenableyoungstudentstosharetimeandeffortwiththeirfamily,duringwhichtheyalsolearntoobservehowotherpeopledealwithdifficulties.Thiscanhelphighschoolstudentslearnthewayhowthingsaretackled.Certainly,somepeoplemaysaythatstudentsshouldfocusmoreontheirschoolworkinsteadofhouseholdwork,whichshouldbedonebytheirparents.Besides,eventhoughhighschoolstudentsexcelatthosechores,theycannotgotorenownedschoolsbecauseofthis.Eventhoughtheyarengitafterschool,highschoolstudentsareunderacademicpressureandtheyneedtomakebetteruseoftheirtimeworkingontheirschoollearning.However,withoutnghouseholdwork,youngstudentsdonotknowtheroletheyareyingintheirfamily.Havingagreatperformanceinschoolisjustsomethingtheyneedtodoforthemselves.Theycannotonlyfocusontheirownthings.Rather,theyshouldallbeparticipatinginhouseholdworkforlearningthesenseofresponsibilitynomattertheylikeitornot.Thisisagreattrainingforyoungkidsbecausewhentheyleaveschoolorleavetheirfamily,theyalsoneedtodothingsthattheydonotlike.Withthepracticeofnghouseholdwork,theycangainsuchknowledgethroughthedemonstrationofsenseofresponsibility.Thus,highschoolstudentsnodoubtsshouldlearntodohouseholdafterschool,sothattheycanlearnthesenseofDoyouagreeordisagreewiththefollowingstatement?Studentsaremoreinterestedinpoliticsnowthantheywereinthepast.Studentpoliticalactivismworldwidehasincreasedsignificantlyinthepastcentury.Whiletherehavealwaysbeenstudentswhoshowlittleinterestinpoliticalaffairs,therehavebeenmanyatvarioustimesandcesthroughouthistorywhohavebeendeeplyengagedinpoliticalandpubliclife.Theincreaseinstudentactivisminrecentdecadesisattributabletomanyfactors,manyofwhicharespecifictothesocio-politicalclimateinwhichtheylive.Thereare,however,anumberofotherfactorsthatarecommontoalmostallstudentsregardlessofwheretheyliveorwhattheirpoliticalaspirationsmaybe.Thesefactorsincludeincreasedcoverageofpoliticaleventsinthenewsmedia,advancesintechnologythatenablestudentstocommunicatetheirpoliticalviews,andincreasedopportunitiesfortravelthatallowstudentstoconnectwitheachotherandformpoliticalgroupsandotheralliances.Overthecourseofthelasthalf-century,variousnewsmediaoutletshaveexpandedtheircoverageofpoliticalevents.Moreover,differentmassmediahaveenabledpeopletolearnaboutpoliticaleventsthatarenotonlylocal,butalsofarawayfromwheretheylive.Arecentexampleofthelatteristheso-called“ArabSpring,”whichmanypeoplelearnedaboutthroughevision,radio,newspapersandtheInternet.Oneeffectofthisincreaseincoverageisthatithasgivenyoungpeopleameanswithwhichtodiscoverthepoliticalstrugglesofothersand,inngso,begintoformulateandrefinetheirownpoliticalviews.AnotherfactorinfluencingtheincreaseinstudentactivismisthedevelopmentinrecentdecadesofvariousInternetsuchasandtheWorldWideWeb.Thesenotonlydirectinformationaboutpoliticaleventstostudents,buttheyalsogiveyoungpeoplethemeanswithwhichshareideasandcommunicatetheirownpoliticalviewswithothers.Additionally,socialnetworkingwebsitessuchas havegivenstudentsawaytocommunicatepoliticalideasandevenformgroupsthatshareacommoninterest.Athirdfactoraffectingstudentpoliticalactivismhastodowithincreasedaccesstotransportation.Whilesomestudentsmayliveinceswheretravelisdifficultorevenrestricted,manyfindtraveltobemucheasierandfastertodaythaninpreviouscenturies.Thishasmadeitmucheasierforstudentstojoingroups,attendmeetings,gotopoliticaldemonstrations,andbepresentatrallies.Whethertravelinglocallywithinacity,ortoadifferentcountryorregion,modernmeansoftransportationhavemadeiteasierforstudentstoexercisetheirpoliticalconvictionswithotherlikemindedpeople.Thereasonsyoungpeopleengageinpoliticalactivismtodayarevastandvaried,andtheyarecertainlyrelativetothesocio-politicalclimateofanygiventimeandce.Regardlessoftheirpoliticalviews,however,studentstodayarelivinginaworldthatoffersmanyopportunitiestogaingreaterawarenessof,andparticipatein,thepoliticalsthatshapetheirlivesandthecommunitiesinwhichtheylive.Doyouagreeordisagree:collegesanduniversitiesmustdoabetterjobofpreparingstudentforthe[workWearenowlivinginaglobalvillagewherecompetitionisfierce.Somepeoplethenconsiderthatcollegesanduniversitiesshoulddoabetterjobofpreparingstudentsfortheirfutureworkce.However,notallthepeopleagreewiththisideasincethisistoooccupation-orientedforhighereducation.Tome, ally,Iaminfavoroftheformerideawhichisalsothestandourpromptconsents.Firstly,collegesanduniversitiesneedtohelpstudentstoknowwhattheyareadeptatfortheirfuturecareer.Mostofthemneedtoseekforajobrightaftertheygraduatefromcollegesoruniversities,thusschoolsundoubtedlyneedtopreparethemfortheirjobsinamoreseriousway.Locatingwhatstudentsneedsorinspiringtheinterestsofstudentsareimportanttasksforhighereducation.Forinstance,universitiesshouldoffermorecoursesthatallowstudentstoexplorewhatkindsoffieldtheyareappropriatesothattheycanspendmoretimeworkingonthespecialtyduringtheircollegeyears.Besides,schoolscanalsoprovidemoreinformationaboutwhatjobsarerelatedtotheirmajor.Agoodcaseinpoint,somestudentslovethelanguageof“English”sotheychoosetostudyinEnglishmajorthatrequiresstudentstoreadalotoflitureofEnglish.However,thejobopportunitiesinthesocietydonotneedpeoplewhoreadalotofliture,butpeoplewhocanspeakthelanguageorwhocanteachthelanguageandusethelanguageinthedailylife.Thus,iftheschoolcanhelpsuchpreparation,collegestudentscantakemorecoursesrelevantfortheirfuturecareerinadvanced.AheadstartforthecareerpreparationisalwaysinvitingtothestudentsaswellastheSecondly,pureacademicstudieshaveagaptotherealityoftherequirementthattheworkcerequires.Itgoeswithoutsayingthatcollegesanduniversitiesarethefoundationofacademicworkthatleadstotheadvancementoftheworkinallaspects.Withoutit,humanknowledgecannotbeaccumulatedinasolidfoundation.However,noteverybodygoesforfurtherstudiesand
