Thestudyisthefirsttoexaminetheassociationwithdepressionaccordingtothetypeofchocolate
consumed.Theteamassesseddatafrom13,626adultsfromtheUSNationalHealthandNutrition
ExaminationSurvey.
Arangeofotherfactorsincludingheight,weight,maritalstatus,education,householdincome,physical
activity,smokingandchronic(慢f生的)healthproblemswerealsotakenintoaccounttoensurethestudy
onlymeasuredchocolate?seffectondepressivesymptoms.
Afteradjustingforthesefactors,itwasfoundthatindividualswhoreportedeatinganydarkchocolate
intwo24-hourperiodshad70percentloweroddsofreportingclinicallyrelevantdepressivesymptomsin
theprevioustwoweeksthanthosewhoreportednoteatingchocolateatall.
Chocolatecontainsanumberofpsychoactiveingredients(精神活性成分)whichproduceafeelingof
euphoria(兴奋感)similartothatofcannabinoid(大麻素),foundincannabis.ltalsocontains
phenylethylamine(苯丙氨酸),whichisbelievedtobeimportantforregulatingpeople'smoods.
HoweverBritishscientistsurgedcautionaboutthefindings,suggestingthatthedecisiontoeatdark
chocolatecouldbelinkedtootherhealthfactors.Forexample,peoplewhochoosedarkchocolatemaybe
morehealth-consciousingeneral,whichisknowntoprotectagainstdepression.
