ifnomaindestinationcanbedetermined,theMemberStatewhoseexternalbordertheapplicantintendstocrossinordertoentertheterritoryoftheMemberStates.WHICHCONSULATEOFTHEMEMBERSTATEINCHINA(IFTHEREAREMORETHANONE)ISCOMPETENTFOREXAMININGANDDECIDINGONMYVISAAPPLICATION?PleasecheckthewebsiteoftheMemberStatethroughthelinksbelow.WHERECANILODGEMYAPPLICATION?Applicationscanbeeitherlodgedtoanexternalserviceproviderordirectlyatconsulateofthedestinationcountry.PleasecheckthewebsiteoftheMemberStatethroughthelinksbelow.WHATHAPPENSIFMYAPPLICATIONISLODGEDWITHTHEMEMBERSTATEORTHECONSULATETHATISNOTCOMPETENTFOREXAMININGANDDECIDINGONMYVISA?Whenanapplicationhasbeenlodged,theconsulateverifieswhetheritiscompetenttoexamineanddecideonit.Iftheconsulateisnotcompetent,itshall,withoutdelay,returntheapplicationformandanydocumentssubmittedbytheapplicant,reimbursethevisafee,andindicatewhichconsulateiscompetent.VISAApplicantsshallpayavisafeeofEURChildrenfromtheageofsixyearsandbelowtheageof12yearsshallpayavisafeeofEURNationalsfromtheRussianFederation,Ukraine,theFormerYugoslavRepublicofMacedonia(FYROM),Serbia,Montenegro,Bosnia&Herzegovina,AlbaniaandtheRepublicofMoldovashallpayavisafeeofEUR35.Thevisafeemustbepaidinlocalcurrency.Thevisafeeshallbewaivedforapplicantsbelongingtooneofthefollowingchildrenundersixschoolpupils,students,postgraduatestudentsandaccompanyingteacherswhoundertakestaysforthepurposeofstudyoreducationaltraining;researchersfromthirdcountriestravellingforthepurposeofcarryingoutscientificresearchasdefinedinRecommendationNo2005/761/ECoftheEuropeanParliamentandoftheCouncilof28September2005tofacilitatetheissuebytheMemberStatesofuniformshort-stayvisasforresearchersfromthirdcountriestravellingwithintheCommunityforthepurposeofcarryingoutscientificresearch;representativesofnon-profitorganisationsaged25yearsorlessparticipatinginseminars,conferences,sports,culturaloreducationaleventsorganisedbynon-profitorganisations.Note:someMemberStatesgrantadditionalvisafeewaiversforspecificcategoriesofapplicants.PleasecheckthewebsiteoftheMemberStatesthroughthelinksbelow.AnadditionalservicefeewillbechargedbyanexternalserviceHOWLONGBEFORETHESTARTOFTHEINTENDEDVISITCANIAPPLYApplicationsshallbelodgednomorethanthreemonthsbeforethestartoftheintendedHoldersofamultiple-entryvisamaylodgetheapplicationforanewvisabeforetheexpiryofthevisavalidforaperiodofatleastsixmonths.HOWLONGBEFORETHESTARTOFTHEINTENDEDVISITSHOULDIAPPLYItisadvisabletolodgeanapplicationatleast15calendardaysbeforetheintendedHoweveritisalsorecommendedthatyoulodgeyourvisaapplicationtakingintoaccountnationalholidaysofthecountryofdestinationandChina.Pleasenotethatduringholidaystheoperationofcertainconsularservicesmaybereduced.PleasecheckthewebsiteoftheMemberStatethroughthelinksbelow.DOINEEDANAPPOINTMENTFORSUBMITTINGMYAPPLICATION?ApplicantsmayberequiredtoobtainanappointmentforthelodgingofanPleasecheckthewebsiteoftheMemberStatethroughthelinksSHOULDIHAVEASTAMPONMYPASSPORTINDICATINGTHATMYVISAAPPLICATIONISADMISSIBLE?Whenanapplicationisadmissible,thecompetentconsulatestampstheapplicant’stravelThisstampindicatestheMemberStateexaminingtheapplication(i.e.FR),thedateofapplication(i.e.22.4.2010)andtheauthorityexaminingthevisaapplication(i.e.ConsulateofFranceinThisstamphasnolegalimplications,andwhenavisaisissued,thestickerisplacedonthepagewherethestamphasbeenaffixed.DiplomaticandservicepassportsarenotWHATSUPPORTINGDOCUMENTSARETOBEATTACHEDTOMYChecktheharmonizedlistofsupportingdocumentstobesubmittedbyapplicants(link)andthewebsiteoftheMemberStatethroughthelinksbelow.PleasenotethatduringtheexaminationofanapplicationtheconsulatemayrequestadditionalDOIHAVETOGOTHROUGHANINTERVIEWATTHEPleasenotethatduringtheexaminationofanapplicationtheconsulatemaycalltheapplicantforaninterview.HOWLONGDOESITTAKEFORTHECONSULATETODECIDEONMYApplicationsshallbedecidedonwithin15calendardaysofthedateofthelodgingofanapplicationwhichisadmissible.Thatperiodmaybeextendeduptoamaximumof30calendardaysinindividualcases,notablywhenfurtherscrutinyoftheapplicationisneeded.Exceptionally,whenadditionaldocumentationisneededinspecificcases,theperiodmaybeextendeduptoamaximumof60calendardays.WHATCANIDOIFTHEVISAISAsof5thApril2011,applicantswhohavebeenrefusedavisashallbeinformedbyanofficialrefusalletterandmayhavetherighttoappealinaccordancewiththenationallawoftheconcernedMemberState.AppealsshallbeconductedagainsttheMemberStatethathastakenthefinaldecisionontheapplicationandinaccordancewiththenationallawofthatMemberState.EachMemberStateshallindicatethereferencestothenationallawandtheprocedurerelatingtotherightofappeal,includingthecompetentauthoritywithwhichanappealmaybelodged,aswellasthetimelimitforlodgingsuchanappeal.Youwillfindthisinformationintheformfornotifyingandmotivatingrefusalthatyouwillbegivenforsuchpurpose.WHATDOCUMENTSDOIHAVETOTAKEWITHMEWHENITRAVELONASCHENGENMerepossessionofaSchengenvisadoesnotmeanthattheholderhasanautomaticrighttoentertheSchengenArea(i.e.theterritoryofthecountriesthatissueSchengenvisa).Attheexternalborder,thevisaholdermayberequestedtoproducedocumentsjustifyingthepurposeandconditionsoftheintendedstayandthattheyhavesufficientmeansofsubsistence,bothfortheperiodoftheintendedstayandforthereturntotheircountryoforiginortransittoathirdstateintowhichtheyarecertaintobeadmitted,orareinapositiontoacquiresuchmeansWHATRULESAPPLYIFMYFAMILYMEMBERSAREEUOREEAIfyouareafamilymemberofanEU/EEAyoumayqualifyforanacceleratedfreevisaprocedureaslongasyoumeetthefollowingcriteria:1.-Youareafamilymember(thisincludesaspouse,registeredpartner,childwhoisunder21oradependingfamilymember)ofanEU/EEAorSwissnational(orofhis/herspouse/registeredpartner);AND2.-ThatEU/EEAnationalorSwissnationalisresidinginanotherMemberStatethanthatofwhichhe/sheisanationalortravellingtheretotakeupresidence;AND3.-YouareaccompanyingtheEU/EEAnationalorplanningtojoinhim/herforThevisashouldbeappliedforattheEmbassyofthecountryoffutureresidenceoftheEU/EEAnationalorSwissnational,notattheEmbassyofhis/hercountryoforigin.Ifyouthinkyouqualifyforvisafacilitationyouwillneedtoshowproofthatyoumeetthesecriteriawhenyousubmityourvisaapplication.LINKSTOTHEWEBSITESOFTHEMEMBERSTATESOFTHESCHENGEN
