Tuesday.TheInnerMongoliaautonomousregion②wasaffectedfirstbytheweather.Otherareas

affectedincludedtheXinjiangUygurautonomousregionandsomenorthernandwesternprovinces.

TheNMC(3)updatedabluealertforsandstormsonMonday.ThealertbeganonSaturday.On

MondayinBeijing,theminimumvisibilitywasbetween1and4kilometers.ThelevelofPM10©

reachedaconcentrationofmorethan200microgramspercubicmeteronMondayafternoon.On

dayswhenairqualityisgood,thePM10levelusuallyremainsbelow150microgramspercubic

meter.ThesandstormwillweakenstartingfromTuesday.

ZhangLirina,chiefforecasteratBeijingMeteorologicalService⑤.saidthatstrongwinds

blowingoversandandsoilparticlesindesertscreatetheconditionsforsandandduststorms.Strong

windtransportsthesandanddust,soasthewinddwindles,thedustyweatherwillbecome

weak.Windsblowingoverdesertscarrytheparticlesupandthentransportthemeastandsouth,she

said."Themaincausesofsandyanddustyweatherarethecombinationoflittlerainfall,high

temperatureandwindyweatherinspring.”

morethaninnormalyears,accordingtotheNMC.Lastspring,northernChinahad7roundsofdusty

weather.From2000to2021,therewere10.7roundsofdustyweatherannuallyonaverage,

accordingtothe2022ChinaClimateBulletin®.
