oftheEuropeanRoboticsNetworkattheSwedishRoyalInstituteof
TechnologyinStockholm.Shouldrobotsthatarestrongenoughorheavy
enoughtocrushpeoplebeallowedintohomes?Is"systemmalfunction"a
justifiabledefenceforaroboticfighterplanethatcontravenes(违反)the

than600,000robotvacuumcleanersandlawnmowers—afigurepredictedto
risetomorethan4mbytheendofnextyear.Japaneseindustrialfirmsare
racingtobuildhumanoidrobotstoactasdomestichelpersfortheelderly,and
SouthKoreahassetagoalthat100%ofhouseholdsshouldhavedomestic
robotsby2020.Inlightofallthis,itiscrucialthatwestarttothinkabout
