unveiledaplantocutenergyuseacrossthecontinentby20percentby2020.LastMarch,Chinaimposeda20
percentincreaseinenergyefficiencyby2020.EvenGeorgeW.Bush,theTexasoilman,isexpectedtotalkabout
energyconversationinhisStateoftheUnionspeechthisweek.
Thegoodnewsisthattheworldisfullofproven,cheapwaystosaveenergy.Herearetheseventhatcould
havethebiggestimpact:
Insulate
Spaceheatingandcoolingeatsup36percentofalltheworld'senergy.There'svirtuallynolimittohow
muchofthatcanbesaved,asprototype“zero-energyhomes^^inSwitzerlandandGermanyhaveshown.There*s
beenasurgeinnewwaysofkeepingheatinandcoldout(orviceversa).Themostadvancedinsulationfollows
thelawofincreasingreturns:ifyouaddenough,youcanscaledownoreveneliminateheatingand
