尊敬的评委、女士们、先生们:吉卜林说过,“东方是东方,西方是西方,两者永不聚!”然而如今,在一个世纪之后,东西方相聚了。

它们在贸易中相聚,在教育中相聚,在艺术中相聚。

有人争论说这种东西方之聚,使得我们能够在东西方中作出选择.然而我相信最美好的未来在于东西方世界的创造性的结合,我们可以变西方的观念、习俗、技术为己所有,为己所用;我们可以享受两上不同世界之精华,总之,我们的传统之一就是择其精华,为己所用。

然而,西方的生活方式和价值会威胁到我们的民族特色吗?

历史让我们轻易相信——也许是太轻易地让我们相信此说了。

有人似乎认为彩西方习俗,比如新娘结婚穿白色婚纱,是对外国介入的屈服,是对传统遗产的背叛,因为按中国传统,结婚新娘要穿红色,而白色长期以来代表的是哀悼。

这些人担心一量我们变得全球化,我们也就不在是中国人了。

我不这样认为。

历史告诉我们:一个强大自信的民族学起外面的世界易如反掌。

无论是穿白衣还是黑衣,还是东西方异质文化的联姻,都给我们带来多姿多采的生活。

东西方异质文化的联姻是一席来自世界各地佳肴的盛宴。

身为中国菜的业余美食家,我喜欢民族的佳肴。

然而我的中国口味也欣赏异国的风味。

生活中我为简便吃麦当劳,却不会放弃自己的良好口味。

从小祖父就教我哼唱京剧,京剧深入我的精神之中,成为我灵魂的一部分。

我热爱京剧,因为京剧让我总想起自己是谁。

但是我也迷恋现代流行音乐,在学校里还是“辣味女孩”的头号歌迷。

当然,异质文化的交流远不止于食物、音乐和舞蹈,它深入到价值观和世界观。有一次老师给我讲了一个中国男孩和一个美国女孩发生争执的故事。

在花园里他们俩发现了一只小兔,两人都想要。

你肯定见过草丛中晒太阳的小兔。

没什么东西比小兔子更可爱的,更富有自然情趣了,难怪他们两人都想要它。

男孩拉起了二胡,愉快喜悦的琴声,充满了渴望和激情,回荡在空中,小兔子听着这音乐轻轻摇摆,耳朵转向音乐,它喜爱男孩的琴声。

女孩也取出小提琴,拉出悠扬的旋律。

小兔子听了朝她跑去。

两人都全神贯注于自己的音乐,丝毫没注意对方演奏的音乐。

交杂在一块的音乐困惑了小兔子,它不知该朝哪走。男孩和女孩都不能将小兔子吸引过来,只好放弃,各自走开了,扔下小兔子独自一人。

然而倘若他们倾听对方的音乐,而不是各自为歌,那么结果会如何呢?

当我听到小提琴声响起,男男女女走道一起又唱又跳,乐声中充满了欢乐,此时我也听见了草原上、山谷间、小河旁传来得我们本民族的音乐的回声。

音乐分你我,还是属于我们大家?

我想听的是二胡与小提琴的合奏,旋律与节奏和谐一致。

大家一起才能创造出新颖动听音乐,只有在和谐中大家才能创造出富有神韵的乐声。

在温暖的阳光中,小兔子在等待着我们一起演奏,等待着交响乐开始。

他有必要再永远的等下去吗?决择在于我们自己。谢谢。

抓住每分每秒

有天晚上,我向妈妈抱怨自己事情太多,时间不够。她说道:“你抱怨没有时间就是因为你把珍贵的分分秒秒都浪费在抱怨和焦虑上。关键是,无论你的时间表排得多满,如果你真的努力尝试了,你还是总能间插地做些事情。”

这同填充广口瓶是一个道理,即使你将一小堆拳头大小的石块和一桶碎石倒进瓶里,也还能继续倒入沙子和水,使其漏进石块的间隙中去。

第十四届“21世纪·联想杯”全国英语演讲比赛总决赛4月10日在上海圆满落幕。

特别荣幸参加这个活动来讨论一下女性的问题。这问题我觉得很有意思,几乎所有的男人都愿意谈这个问题,但是不一定所有的男人都做得好这个问题。

我在路上的时候在想,英国是个很了不起的国家,因为很少有一个国家,一个女王和首相都同时代是女性,而且这个国家有很多了不起的女性科学家、女性思想家,甚至女性的作家。

我最早学英文的时候,一定要看的一本小说《简·爱》。到今天的《哈利·波特》,所有的女性其实在英国的历史上对整个历史的进步是做出了巨大的贡献。

第一次工业革命以后,在英国的女性从裙子变成了裤子,推进了整个历史的发展。所以我觉得,女性是一个很有意思的话题,也是在这个时代我们要越来越关注的事。我本来不会关注我们公司做了什么样的工作,直到我们去年上市前的一个月,有一个美国的记者到我们公司,他就走的时候问我一个问题:“你们公司怎么有那么多女性的同事?”我说:“这有什么问题吗?”我因为没反应过来这有什么问题。他说和世界上其他的高科技公司比较,到阿里巴巴来发现女性特别多,我那时候还好奇“真有这样的事情”,我就回去问了一下我的同事。我说:“你帮我调查一下我们公司有多少女性。”当时的调查是(女性比例为)52%,现在只有49%。因为我们买了几家公司男生比较多一点,有一点回去。52%的员工在我们公司是女性,35%的管理层是女性,23%的高层管理是女性,我们女性的首席执行官、女性的总裁、女性的首席人力官,当然各种各样的首席官我们有很多,我们公司还有很多女性的工程师,当然女性的博士也有很多。

Aboutayearandahalfago,ItookpartinmyveryfirstEnglishSpeechContest.WhenIstoodbeforethemicrophonewithalleyesstarringdirectlyatme,Icouldhardlyspeak.Istoodthere,embarrassedandhelpless,strugglinginvainfortherightthingtosay.Myfearshadparalyzedme.

WhilemypassionforEnglishhasneverchanged,Ilostmycouragetospeakinpublic.WhenmyprofessoragainencouragedmetotakepartinthisCompetition,Isaid“no.”Icouldn’tendureyetanotherpainfulexperience.Helookedmestraightintheeyeandsaidsomethingthatpiercedmyheart.Iwillneverforgethiswords.“Look,”hesaid,“Weallhaveourfears,andyouhaveyours.Youcouldtwistyourankleinabasketballgame,butthenbeafraidtoeverplayagain.Runningawaycanneverdispelyourfears,butactionwill.Awinnerisnotonewhoneverfails,butonewhoneverquits.”

Ispentawholedaywithhiswordstwistingandturninginmymind.ThenImadethebravestandwisestdecisionofmylife:Iwouldfacemyfears–andtakepartinthecompetition!

Asitturnedout,mydearoldprofessorwasright.Now,hereIam,onceagainstandingbeforeamicrophone.Myheartisbeatingfast,andmymouthisdry,butmostimportantly,Ihavefacedmyfears--andthatmakesallthedifference!

战胜恐惧

尊敬的评委,各位来宾,女士们先生们,我很荣幸在这个美妙的星期六早上来到这里,与你们分享我生命中一段特别的经历。

大概一年半以前,我参加了生平第一次演讲比赛。站在麦克风前,面对观众们期待的眼神,我竟紧张的说不出话来。那一刻,我是多么无助啊!

我对于英语的挚爱从未改变,但却从此失去了面对公众演讲的勇气。当老教授鼓励我参加希望英语风采大赛时,我拒绝了。他直视我的眼睛,说了一番令我终身难忘的话。“你瞧,”他说,“我们都有自己的恐惧。你可能会在一场篮球比赛中扭脚,并从此害怕再打球。你只能用行动去克服自己的恐惧,逃避是没有用的。生活中的成功者往往是永不放弃的人。”

我花了一整天时间思考他的话。然后,我做出了一个勇敢而明智的决定:我要参加中央电视台第五届“希望之星”英语风采大赛!

老教授是对的。我发挥出了自己的水平,一路杀进了全国总决赛。此时此刻,当我再一次站在了麦克风前,仍然心跳不止,但更重要的是,我终于能够勇敢地面对我的恐惧了,而这已足够了。

Iwouldliketobeginmyspeechwithashortpoem,entitledDreams.Holdfasttodreams,forifdreamsdie,lifeisabroken-wingedbirdthatcannotfly;holdfasttodreams,forwhendreamsgo,lifeisabarrenfield,frozenwithsnow.Inthispoem,tosomeextent,wecanknowtheimportanceofdreams.

Iamsureallofyouhere,haveyourowndreams,sinceweareinyouth,whichisthegoldenperiodofourlife,fullofimagination,creativity,enthusiasmandstrength.Weshouldhavedreams.Itcanbeourguidingstar,hanginginfrontofus,lightingourway.Whenwefeelpuzzled,tiredordepressed,itisourdreamsguidingus,letusgoforwardbravely.
