geometryandIwasn‘tevensurehowtobeginthefirstparagraph.Insteadof
seekinggoodadvice,Ikeptputtingitoff.Ratherunwisely,Ileftittothelast
minute.Asthedeadlineapproached,Ihadtostayupallnightworkingonmy
laptoptocompleteit.ThenextdayIfeltdizzyandstartedcoughingandsneezing.
Unsurprisingly,itwasn’taverygoodessay.However,thistaughtmeavaluable
lesson.AssoonasIreceivedthenextassignment,Iheadedstraightforthelibrary
tofindthereferencebooksIneededformyresearch,andthencreatedanoutline
followedbyadraft.Aftercarefuleditingandpolishing,theresultwasamuch
betteressaythanthelast,anditwasreadyinmydeskdrawerdaysbeforethe
deadline.Iwouldsticktothisapproachforthedurationofmystudies.MyuniversitylifeIrememberedcooperatingwithmyclassmatesongroupprojects.Everyonewould
beassignedaspecifictask,andmyrolewasusuallytoproducethepresentation.
Wewouldmeetintheschoolcafeteriatobounceideasoffeachother,andwould
laughandargueandlaughsomemoreaswelearnttoworktogetherasateam.I
realizedthatlearningdidn’thavetobeasoloeffortandthatworkingwithother
peoplecouldbemuchmorestimulatingandproductivethanworkingalone.MyuniversitylifeIrememberedvisitingmyfavouriteprofessor,atallgentlemanwithhisbeardand
hairgoinggrey,duringhisofficehoursforthefirsttime.Initially,Ifoundhis
strictnessintimidating,butquicklycametoadmirehimforhisvastknowledgeand
deepunderstandingofhissubject.Itsoondawnedonmethatmanyuniversity
professorsarequitewillingtosharewhattheyknow,andtheydo
takeagenuine
interestintheirstudents’intellectualdevelopment.MyuniversitylifeIheardmyparents’voicescallingmeandIreturnedtothemoment.Afterthe
graduationceremonyweheadedhomebytrain.Ilookedoutofthecarriage
windowattheworldspeedingby.Thejourneyhomegavemetimetothinkabout
whatthefuturemightholdforme.Universityhaschangedme.NotonlyamInow
moreintellectuallypreparedfortheworldofwork,butIamalsomoreconfident
