Fortunately,experiencedsocialworkerscameforwardtoadviseMelbourneCityCouncilnottobow
toloudbutmisguidedadvocacy.TheproposedPrinceHenrySheltercomplexdidnothappenandthe
hospitalwasdestroyedin1994.
Ofcourse,thereneedstobeanefficientandeffectiveresponsetoroughsleepinginthe
Melbourneandeveryothercapitalcity.OnlylastyearVictoria’sHomelessnessandRoughSleeping
ActionPlanwaslaunched,backedbya$9.8millionTowardsHomepackage,“toprovidehousingand
supporttoanincreasingnumberofpeoplesleepingroughacrossinnerMelbourne”.
Thefactisthatthegoalofhousingroughsleepershasnotbeenachieved,despitemanyattempts
