entireyear.TheexperimentwasagrandsuccessandTalleyrand'sassociationwith

NapoleonBonapartewasknowntobeunimpressedbythedecliningtasteofearly18th

centurycooking,butunderpressuretoentertainParis'shighsociety,hetoocalled

cakefortheweddingofNapoleonandhissecondbride,Marie-LouiseofAustria.He

becameoneofthefirstmodernchefstofocusontheappearanceofhistable,notjustthe

flavorofhisdishes."Iwantorderandtaste.Awell-displayedmealisenhancedone

hundredpercentinmyeyes,"helaterwroteinoneofhiscookbooks.[H]In1816,

Caremebeganaculinary(烹饪的)journeywhichwouldforevermarkhisplaceas

featured120differentdishes,highlightingeightdifferentsoups,40maincourses,and32
