found60%ofstudentswhowereeitherlivingabroadorhadspentsometimedoingso,
solvedtheproblem,whereasonly42%ofthosewhohadnotlivedabroaddidso.A
follow-upstudywith72Americansand36foreignersexploredtheircreativenegotiating
skills.Pairsofstudentswereaskedtoplaytheroleofasellerofapetrolstationwhothen
neededtogetajobandabuyerwhowouldneedtohirestafftorunthebusiness.Thetwo
werelikelytoreachadeadlockbecausethebuyerhadbeentoldhecouldnotaffordwhat
thesellerwastoldwashisminimumprice.Nevertheless,wherebothnegotiatorshad
livedabroad70%struckadealinwhichthesellerwasofferedamanagementjobatthe
petrolstationinreturnforaloweraskingprice.Whenneitherofthenegotiatorshadlived
