Referstotheabilitytousethelinguisticsystem(phonology,lexicon,grammar,discourse)accuratelyandappropriatelytounderstandandproducespokenandwrittenEnglish.Thisincludes:

*Speaking:Expressingideasclearly,fluently,andcoherentlyinbothformalandinformalcontexts.

*Reading:Understanding,interpreting,andevaluatingawiderangeofwrittentextsfordifferentpurposes.

*Writing:Producingclear,coherent,andwell-organizedtextsforvariousaudiencesandpurposes.

2.2CulturalAwareness

Involvesunderstandingtherelationshipbetweenlanguageandculture,appreciatingculturaldiversity,anddemonstratingrespectfordifferentculturalperspectives.Thisincludes:

*Recognizingculturalelementsembeddedinlanguageuse.

2.3ThinkingQuality

*Analyzingandevaluatinginformation.

*Makinginferencesanddeductions.

*Solvingproblemsandmakingdecisions.

*Engaginginindependentandcollaborativethinking.

2.4LearningAbility

Referstothecapacitytotakechargeofone'sownlearning,useeffectivelearningstrategies,andadapttonewlearningenvironments.Thisincludes:

*Usingavarietyoflearningresourcesandstrategies(e.g.,dictionaryuse,note-taking,peerlearning).

3.2Stage-SpecificObjectives

Thecurriculumistypicallydividedintoseveralstages(e.g.,primary,juniorsecondary,seniorsecondary,tertiary),withprogressivelychallengingobjectivesforeachstage.Theseobjectivesspecifytheexpectedlevelsofproficiencyinlistening,speaking,reading,writing,andthedevelopmentofculturalawareness,thinkingquality,andlearningabilityappropriatetoeachageandeducationallevel.

Keycontentareasinclude:

*ThemesandTopics:Coveringawiderangeofareassuchaspersonallife,school,society,science,technology,culture,andtheenvironment.

*LanguageSkills:Systematicdevelopmentoflistening,speaking,reading,andwritingskillsthroughintegratedactivities.

*LearningStrategies:Explicitinstructionandpracticeincognitive,metacognitive,social,andaffectivestrategies.

5.TeachingandLearningSuggestions

EffectiveEnglishteachingandlearningshould:

*Provideopportunitiesforlearnerstotakeinitiativeandresponsibilityfortheirlearning.
