witharoundhalfsayingtheyhadanartistichobby.Amongthose,theeffectwasgreater:thosewithanartistichobbyinthe

beautygroupscoredover23%higheronaverageforabstractthinkingthanthosewithanartistichobbyinthecontrolgroup.

Emotionalstatesofparticipantswerealsomeasuredbyaskingabouttheirfeelingswhilecompletingthegallerytask.

Acrossallparticipants,thoseinthebeautygroupreportedanaverageof23%higherlevelsoft4transfbrmaliveandself­

transcendentfeelings^^——suchasfeelingmoved,enlightenedandinspired—thanthecontrolgroup.Iinportantly,however,

thebeautygroupdidnotreportfeelinganyhappierthanthecontrolgroup,suggestingthatitwastheengagementwith

beautythatinfluencedabstractthinking,ratherthananyoverallpositivityfromtheexperience.
