A Catholic, Kennedy was the only non-Protestant president, and was the only president to have won a Pulitzer Prize.,His New Frontier in social legislation involved a federal desegregation policy in educ

7、ation, and civil rights reform. He displayed firmness and moderation in foreign policy, in 1962 inducing the former Soviet Union to withdraw its missiles from Cuba, and achieving a partial nuclear test-ban treaty with the former Soviet Union in 1963.,He was assassinated in November 1963, when journe

8、yed to Texas for a speech-making tour. He was shot in the neck and head by a 24-year-old man.
