2、ture” by Emerson “The Universe is composed of Nature and Soul”; “Spirit is present everywhere” Had enough of Franklin, not happy about the materialistic-oriented life of their time. It is a philosophical view, a notion, a concept, an idea, a way of looking at things, a set of attitudes about man, God, and the universe, a way of how to get to the basic truth of the universe. The basic truth of the universe,

5、the Transcendentalist believes, is beyond the knowledge one obtains from the senses (the mere appearance of things) or logical analysis. . Basic truth can be reached only through instinct and intuition and are a matter of private experience. To arrive at the truth, man must go beyond or transcend wh

6、at his eyes and ears tell him or what he can learn from books. He must listen to his inner soul. If the stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had be
