专四听力-陈春华答案Test 1 Dictation 1 (陈春华)Marco PoloMarco Polo was an Italian traveler. He went with his father and uncle on many business trips, one of which was to China. They arrived in China in 1275 and stayed until 1292 when they left the country as escorts for a Mongol princess traveling be sea to Persia. In 1298 when Venice was at war, Marco Polo was taken prisoner. During his imprisonment, he dictated to a fellow prisoner the detailed accounts of his travels. His literary work, The Travels of Marco Polo, is perhaps the most famous and influential travel book in history. With a wealth of vivid details, it gave medieval Europe its first consequential knowledge of China and other countries. For a long time it was the only existing source in Europe for information on the geography and life in the Far East. The book became the basis for some of the first accurate maps of Asia made in Europe. That national language has spread over the world, and several variants such as American English, Australian English, exist. A great number of people whose native language is none of the variants know English as a foreign language. They typically use a more or less simplified variant, e.g. excluding most of the idioms of British, American, and Australian English. Of course, they make mistakes, and sometimes the “English” used by people as a foreign language on the Internet is almost incomprehensible to anyone else. In addition, people who use English as their native language do not know how to spell difficult words, since they basically know English as a spoken language. Thus, roughly speaking, the universal language of the Internet is clumsy, coarse and misspelled “English”. The fascinating process of making honey begins when the bees feast on flowers. Although it is available throughout the year, it is an exceptional treat in the summer and fall when it has just been harvested and is at its freshest. For many centuries, honey was regarded as sacred due to its wonderfully sweet properties as well as its rarity. It was used mainly in religious ceremonies to pay tribute to the gods. Honey was also used for a variety of medicinal and cosmetic purposes. In the time of the ancient Olympics, athletes were reported to eat honey to enhance their sports performance. Although honey makes a good replacement for sugar in most recipes, for a long time in history, its use in cooking was reserved only for the wealthy since it was so expensive that only they could afford it. It actually stems from European traditions. In the 1920s, many of Macys employees were first-generation immigrants. Proud of their new American heritage, they wanted to celebrate the American holiday with the type of festival they loved in Europe. They dressed up as clowns, cowboys and knights and marched through the street. With an audience of over a quarter of a million people, the parade was a hit! With nationwide television, the parade assumed its hold on the entire nation in the 1950s. The parade has always been known for its policy of going on rain or shine. This kind of loneliness is not serious. For some people, loneliness can last for years. Recently, researchers say there are three different types of loneliness. The first kind is temporary. It usually disappears quickly and does not require any special attention. The second is called situational loneliness. Its a natural result of a particular situation, such as a family problem, the death of a loved one, or moving to a new place. Although this kind of loneliness can cause physical problems, it does not last for more than a year. The third kind is the most severe. Chronic loneliness usually lasts more than two years and has no specific reasons. People who experience habitual loneliness have problems socializing and keeping close to others. Unfortunately, many chronically lonely people think there is little or nothing they can do to improve their conditions.Listening 5 (陈春华)01-05BADDB06-10AACAC11-15DBCDA16-20CBCDB21-25BCBDA26-30ADCDBTest 6 Dictation 6 (陈春华) Authority and Creativity In many countries, authority is seldom questioned, either because it is highly respected, or because it is feared. Sometimes, too, because rank has been important in certain societies for a long time, people have been trained never to question those in authority. In other countries, including America, children are trained to question and search for answers. When a child asks a question, he will be often told to go to the library and find the answer for himself. By the time students reach the age of 14 or 15, they may be developing exciting new ideas in all fields of science and arts. To encourage such creativity, there are many national prizes offered to students every year for their scientific discoveries and artistic accomplishments. This interest in questioning and searching may be considered by some people as bad for young peoples manners. This impression may be created when visitors notice young Americans asking questions and arguing with older people.Listening 5 (陈春华)01-05BADDB06-10AACAC11-15DBCDA16-20CBCDB21-25BCBDA26-30ADCDBTest 7 Dictation 7 (陈春华) Driving in the US When driving in the United States, its a good idea to have an international drivers license if you dont have a state license. One reason is that people become addicted to cigarettes. The addictive substance in cigarettes is nicotine. When people smoke, the nicotine goes right into the blood stream and makes people feel relaxed. A smokers body gets accustomed to the nicotine, and if he stops smoking he feels nervous. Many smokers try to stop smoking, but because of the addiction to nicotine they feel so uncomfortable that they often find it too hard to stop.Another reason is that people simply enjoy smoking and what it symbolizes. Many things, good or bad can happen to us in our lives. Yet there are days which are usually marked by some kinds of special ceremony; the day we are born, the day we get married and the day we die. We have a choice in the second of these. But we have no choice in birth and death. All human beings are affected by these three events. The only thing that differs in each society is the way these events are celebrated, but all societies share common characteristics. Birth is a time of joy. The proud parents receive congratulations and presents on behalf of the newborn. Marriage is also a time of joy. Death is a time of sorrow and is marked by a special ceremony and mourning.
