阅读理解A(2019江南十校联考)Water Robots Explore the Celtic SeaSicentists in England are using two selfdirected water vehiches to explore the animal and plant life of the Celtic Sea.The Celtic Sea is a body of water off the southern coast of Ireland. The area is known for its exceptional sea life.Scientists want to know why sea animals are so attracted to this part of the Atlantic Ocean. One of the research vehicles is powered by batteries. It collects information for the National Oceanography Center in Southampton,England, and the World Wildlife Fund. The vehicles low energy requirements permit it to stay afloat for up to 30 days.Reports of what it finds in the Celtic Sea are sent by satellite.Stephen Woodward is an engineer who helped design the craft. He says the vehicle has equipment that can detect small organisms called zooplankton and fish.He adds that other sensing devices measure water currents and other features of sea life. The vehicle also creaters a twodimensional(二维图)map of the sea.Another vehicle is powered by solar panels and a wind turbine(涡轮机)It can stay afloat for months. The robotic vehicle sends information about the socalled biodiversity hotspots.A biodiversity hotspot is an area of an ocean that has a lot of plant and animal life activity.Lavinia Suberg is one of the scientists studying the biodiversity of the Celtic Sea.She says productive ocean areas, like the Celtic Sea,attract zooplankton. The zooplankton then attract fish. She adds that areas with a large increase of fish often attract sea mammals and birds.Using these robotic ocean vehicles greatly reduces the cost of exploring the seas with manned laboratories.Scientists can spend more time analyzing the collected information. They say the research will give them a better understanding of the needs of the Celtic Sea for future management and protection.【语篇解读】本文介绍两种水下自我探测器,它们用来勘探海底动植物。1Scientists go to the Celtic Sea to explore _.Awhy this area appeal to sea animalsBwhat the Celtic Sea really desiresCwhether the expense can be reducedDhow this area can be better protected【答案】A细节理解题。根据第一段最后一句话“Scientists want to know why sea animals are so attracted to this part of the Atlantic Ocean.” A。2According to paragraph 2,the research vehicle _.Ais used only to measure water currentsBis designed by the engineer called LaviniaCcan also create a threedimensional mapDcan detect the zooplankton and sea life【答案】D细节理解题。根据第二段第六、七句话“He says the vehicle has equipment that can detect small organisms called zooplankton and fish.He adds that other sensing devices measure water currents and other features of sea life.” D。3Which of the following is TRUE?ABoth of the vehicles are powered by batteries.BNeither of the vehicles can stay for months.CThe vehicles help reduce both time and money.DReports are sent by the scientists themselves.【答案】C推理判断题。根据第四段第一、二两句话“Using these robotic ocean vehicles greatly reduces the cost of exploring the seas with manned laboratories.Scientists can spend more time analyzing the collected information.” C。4What is the purpose of the passage?ATo call on us to protect the sea.BTo introduce two water robots.CTo inform us of sea exploration.DTo arouse our interest in sea life.【答案】B推理判断题。 B(2018北京D)Preparing Cities for Robot CarsThe possibility of selfdriving robot cars has often seemed like a futurists dream, years away from materializing in the real world.Well, the future is apparently now.The California Department of Motor Vehicles began giving permits in April for companies to test truly selfdriving cars on public roads. The state also cleared the way for companies to sell or rent out selfdriving cars, and for companies to operate driverless taxi services.California,it should be noted, isnt leading the way here.Companies have been testing their vehicles in cities across the country. Its hard to predict when driverless cars will be everywhere on our roads. But however long it takes, the technology has the potential to change our transportation systems and our cities, for better or for worse, depending on how the transformation is regulated. While much of the debate so far has been focused on the safety of driverless cars(and rightfully so),policymakers also should be talking about how selfdriving vehicles can help reduce traffic jams, cut emissions(排放)and offer more convenient, affordable mobility options. The arrival of driverless vehicles is a chance to make sure that those vehicles are environmentally friendly and more shared.Do we want to copyor even worsenthe traffic of today with driverless cars?Imagine a future where most adults own individual selfdriving vehicles. They tolerate long, slow journeys to and from work on packed highways because they can work, entertain themselves or sleep on the ride, which encourages urban spread. They take their driverless car to an appointment and set the empty vehicle to circle the building to avoid paying for parking.Instead of walking a few blocks to pick up a child or the dry cleaning, they send the selfdriving minibus. The convenience even leads fewer people to take public transportan unwelcome side effect researchers have already found in ridehailing(叫车)services.A study from the University of California at Davis suggested that replacing petrolpowered private cars worldwide with electric, selfdriving and shared systems could reduce carbon emissions from transportation 80% and cut the cost of transportation infrastructure(基础设施)and operations 40% by 2050.Fewer emissions and cheaper travel sound pretty appealing. The first commercially available driverless cars will almost certainly be fielded by ridehailing services, considering the cost of selfdriving technology as well as liability and maintenance issues(责任与维护问题)But driverless car ownership could increase as the prices drop and more people become comfortable with the technology.Policymakers should start thinking now about how to make sure the appearance of driverless vehicles doesnt extend the worst aspects of the carcontrolled transportation system we have today. The coming technological advancement presents a chance for cities and states to develop transportation systems designed to move more people, and more affordably. The car of the future is coming. We just have to plan for it.【语篇解读】本文是一篇议论文。 5According to the author, attention should be paid to how driverless cars can _.Ahelp deal with transportationrelated problemsBprovide better services to customersCcause damage to our environment Dmake some people lose jobs【答案】A细节理解题。根据第二段第一句“While much of the debate so far has been focused on the safety.policymakers also should be talking about how selfdriving vehicles can help reduce traffic jams, cut emissions and offer more convenient, affordable mobility options.” 6As for driverless cars, what is the authors major concern?ASafety. BSide effects.CAffordability. 根据最后一段第一句“Policymakers should start thinking now about how to make sure the appearance of driverless vehicles doesnt extend the worst aspects of the carcontrolled transportation system we have today.” 7What does the underlined word “fielded” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?AEmployed. BReplaced.CShared. 根据第四段中画线词所在句的前半部分内容the first commercially available driverless cars will almost certainly并结合下句中as the prices drop and more people become comfortable with the technology可知,随着价格的降低以及人们对这项技术开始应用自如,第一批上市的无人驾驶车辆会被用到“叫车服务”中。 8What is the authors attitude to the future of selfdriving cars?ADoubtful. BPositive.CDisapproving. 根据最后一段最后两句“The car of the future is coming. We just have to plan for it.” .完形填空(2019郑州市第一次质检)What do photography and foster(收养的)care have in common?Apparently a lot.Jennifer Loomis,an experienced local photographer, and her husband were a childless couple,so they were considering _1_ a kid.As part of their _2_,they went online and visited sites containing _3_ of children up for adoption._4_,the photos didnt really express the children. To Loomis artful eye, they _5_ to let people know who the children truly were.Loomis then contacted Northwest Adoption Exchange and _6_ a free photo shoot(专业摄影)to help _7_ children show better pictures of them to adoptive parents. The _8_ readily agreed. One child who _9_ the photo shoot was Deon,a lonely child who had bounced around the foster system. With Loomis great _10_,a new and more handsome Deon was photographed. And this had a(n)_11_ effect!
