摘要 d h 劳伦斯的小说儿子与情人的研究者大多围绕社会批判、 两性关系、人物精神和心理发展等问题对这部小说的主题进行阐释， 指出这部小说对工业社会进行了批判、对理想的两性关系和人类非理 性领域进行了探索。本文从成长小说中的成长主题这一角度切入小 说，通过对小说主人公保罗从依赖到独立、从自我缺失到逐步意识到 自我的成长过程进行探讨，试图说明保罗的成长过程与社会、家庭、 父母之间，与两性之间以及与自身之间关系的复杂性及独特性：在成 长中他既要保持自我的独立性，又要不断调整在资本主义工业文明压 抑下各种扭曲和异化的关系，以期达到各种关系的和谐统一，并最终 实现真正的自我。 首先，保罗的自我缺失与他对母亲思想意识的依赖和认同是分不 开的。作为中产阶级家庭出身的母亲，她的思想意识符合1 9 世纪末 2 0 世纪初英国资本主义工业社会以人的经济地位衡量人的社会地位 的社会意识。保罗对母亲思想意识的依赖即是对社会意识的认同。当 保罗完全依赖于母亲，他就成为母亲的情感和社会抱负的载体。他按 照母亲的意愿生活，对于情感、职业、阶级身份的认识与母亲的认识 基本保持一致，完全缺失自我。保罗的这一成长过程说明，当人的思 想意识跟社会意识一致时，人是社会的产物，是他物的物化，自我并 不存在。随着保罗的成长，他的思想意识与母亲认知不再一致而他又 继续依赖母亲时，保罗在情感上经历了为满足母亲的精神之爱而导致 自身的精神和肉体分离的情感痛苦，在职业上经历了因为满足经济需 要而妨碍自身才能发展的职业障碍，在阶级身份的建构过程中也经历 了他是属于中产阶级还是属于工人阶级认识上的困惑，因此这一时期 的保罗，自我认知受到扭曲。这一成长过程说明，当人的思想意识跟 社会意识不一致，而人又仍然受制于社会意识时，人会被社会异化， 自我认知遇到矛盾。然而，扭曲的自我给保罗造成的痛苦促使保罗认 识到，继续依赖子母亲的思想意识就是放弃自我；而他这时意识到， 他必须建立一个新的自我、一个真实的自我：他需要灵肉结合的理想 爱情，需要理想的职业，更需要去解决自己在阶级身份认知上所遭遇 的危机。 保罗走向独立去追寻真正自我的成长过程表明，只有当人具备了 完整的独立意识、确认了自我的独立存在价值、抛弃了可怕的依附性，
