Students can talk about past events and retell a story using the key words. Emotional aims:Encourage the students to think more of others and try to help each other in time of difficulty. Remember that helping others is just helping ourselves.Learning difficult and important points: Words and structuresRetell a storyLearning procedures:Step 1 Lead inShow a video and lead in the topic The rainstorm is coming.Free talk about the rainstorm.(write down the words about the weather and the channals to get the weather report) Step 2 Fast reading1. Match the paragraphs with main ideas.2. Write the structure Before/During/After the rainstorm on the blackboard, and guide them to say out the Time order of this passage.Step 3 Careful reading1. Skimming .Read the passage quickly and find the answers. What was the weather like before the rainstorm?(How was the sky before it rained? What was it like outside?)The teacher shows the PPT and learn light2. When people heard the news on TV, what were they doing?Busy: Dad was putting pieces of the wood over the windows(learn wood). Mom was making sure the flashlights or radio were working.(learn flighlight) She also put candles and matches on the table.(learn matches)3. T: During the storm, how was the weather outside the window? (Look at the window, there was much rain on it. So we can say: The rain began to beat heavily against the window. Learn beat, against, window.) T: When the rain beat against the windows, what were people doing? 4. After the storm, how was the weather? Read the sentences and learn die down and rise How was the neighborhood? In a mess( fallen trees, broken windows and rubbish)T: What do you think of the rainstorm ? Ss: Storm is terrible.T: Are storms always bad?Show two pictures and guide students to say Sorms are not always bad and present the topic sentence “Although the storm broke many things apart, it brought families and neighbors closer together”. Step 4 Discussion1. Work with partners talking about what other things can bring people closer together.2.
