unit4 behind beliefs task2thoughts on the design:本节课是task板块的第二课时,听、说、读、写每种能力都将在本堂课中得到很好的训练。教学中每个步骤循序渐进,学生每一个新内容的学习都以前面步骤中所学知识为基础。在复习的基础上,学生在活动中用英语来完成听、说、读、写等一系列开放式任务。本课教学活动的设计都遵循了学生的认知规律,即按照学生温故知新探索新知识使用新知识巩固新知识的客观规律进行教学。本课开始时对上一堂课的复习帮助学生初步学会如何讲述有关圣诞老人的传说故事;在skills building 2 的具体实践中,学生了解并学会如何用一些句型去询问文化差异。这些都为最后一部分的写作实践作好了准备,从而完成skills building3 的写作任务,体现了学生的学习从输入到输出的一个过程。同时,学生还将在本堂课中进一步培养跨文化意识和与同学进行合作的意识。teaching aims: after the second period of learning for task, the students will be able to further improve their listening, speaking, reading and wring abilities by participating in some interactive activities. they will learn how to use certain expressions to tell about cultural differences and how to write a story about a legendary person. at the end of the lesson, the students will be able to write a story about father christmas. teaching procedures:step 1 revision 1. have a revision of the expressions used to describe a legendary person.expressions used to describe a legendary person: he/she is said/supposed to he/she is known/described as people believe that according to the stories, he/she apparently, he/she i have heard that he/she 2. pair work tell a legendary story about father christmas in pairs, with the expressions used to describe a legendary person. your story needs to cover the following aspects: (ppt5) what he looks like where he lives who his friends are what he does interesting facts st nicholasstory telling: a sample story about father christmas what he looks likefather christmas is said/supposed to be a happy, fat man with long white hair and a long white beard, dressed in a suit with a black belt and the same color boots. where he livesaccording to the legends, father christmas lives near the north pole. who his friends arei have heard that father christmas have elves, which help make toys. apparently, father christmas has 12 reindeer and they help deliver the presents.what he doesfather christmas is known as the person who goes down chimneys and places presents in stockings, in front of the christmas tree, by childrens bed or by the fireplace.interesting factsaccording to the legends, father christmas was usually drawn wearing green before a famous advertisement used a picture of him wearing red in 1931. st nicholasthe story of father christmas is based on st nicholas. i have heard that st nicholas came from a village called myra in turkey. according to the legend, he is pictured as a tall and thin man with no beard and wearing traditional clothes. people believe he is one of the most popular figures in christianity because he is said to be kind, merciful and generous. the origin of his coming down the chimney is said to explanation通过上一堂课所学有关描述传说中人物的句型,并马上运用于讲述圣诞老人的传说故事实践中,使学生在进一步巩固所学内容的同时,提高了说的能力。学生在这一部分所讲述的圣诞老人的故事,其实就是最后一部分的写作内容。在这时,学生已经完成了task的绝大部分写作任务,只是还没落实到笔头而已。skills building 2: asking about cultural differences 1. learn the structures used to ask about cultural differences is/are the same everywhere? what is/are called in each country? which is/are different in each country? how is/are different in each country? 2. practice ask questions about “customs about christmas” or “father christmas” with the structures above. e.g. the custom(s) about christmasis the custom about christmas the same everywhere? practice : (the) custom(s) about christmas is/ are the same everywhere? which is/are different in each country? how is/ are different in each country? father christmas what is/are called in each country? examples are the customs about christmas the same everywhere? which custom about christmas is different in each country? how are the customs about christmas different in each country? what is father christmas called in each country? explanation学生通过该部分内容的学习,将了解并学会使用一些固定的短语或句型来询问文化差异。在该部分设计的口头操练练习中,学生将可以对他们所学的知识做到当堂巩固消化,提高了课堂效率,同时很好地训练了学生的口语能力(speaking ability)。3. finding out about different christmas traditions(1) raise two questions first. q1: what are the names for father christmas in different countries?q2: when does he deliver presents in different countries?then present pictures of father christmas in different countries and let the students explore different names for father christmas in different countries. let the students answer the firs question. the answer to q1 is as follows: in germany, father christmas is called christmas man. in france, he is called father christmas. in russia, he is called father frost or grandfather frost. in sweden, people call him christmas brownie, and people call him santa claus in netherlands. in the uk, he is called father christmas while in the usa, people call him santa claus. after that, ask the students to answer the second question. q: when is he supposed to deliver presents in different countries?a: in many european countries, he delivers presents/ gifts to children on 5 december, the eve of his festival day, or 6 december. in the uk and the usa, the gifts come on christmas eve, 24 december.
