If you fail to declare or dispose of any quarantine items, or make a false declaration:* you will get caught;* you could be fined over A $ 200 on-the-spot; or*you could be prosecuted and fined more than A $ 60,000 and risk up to 10 years imprisonment; If you are not sure about the items you are carrying, ask a quarantine officer who will determine whether they are allowed into Australia.56. It was based on the military examinations of more than 386,000 Dutchmen. Researchers found that the brightest subjects came from the smallest families and had few, if any, brothers and sisters when they were born. Thus the firstborn child in a family of two was usually brighter than the last child in a family. The effects of family size on intelligence may be explained by what a house full of children does to the home environment. It increases the amount of time a child spends with other children and decreases the amount of parental attention he or she receives. For example, a parent with one restless child is likely to sit and play with the child. The same parent with two or three restless children is more likely to ask them to play with each other. Some psychologists say that when a child interacts with an adult alone, the child learns more and therefore intelligence is increased . Researchers have also found that parents often expect more from their firstborn, which motivates such children to seek a higher standard. Not all psychologists agree that firstborns tend to be more intelligent. They say that the data need to be examined more closely for other possible explanations. For example, in industrialized nations most large families come from lower socio-economic backgrounds. Thus environment, not family size or birth order, may be influencing intelligence. On the other hand, there may be genetic variations (基因变异) within families that also explain the cause of differences. If firstborns have advantages in the area of intelligence, research has also shown that they may be more conforming (墨守成规) and have poorer social skills than their younger siblings (brothers and sisters ). Although more research needs to be done in this area, it is clear that such factors as birth order, the order in which boys and girls are born into a family, the number of years that separate siblings probably have an effect on the development of intelligence, personality, and social relationships.60.The underlined word subjects in the first paragraph means _.A. branches of knowledgeB. persons chosen to be studied in experimentsC. any member of a state except the top ruler D. something to be considered61.Psychologists are divided with regard to (关于) their opinions toward_. A. the way in which the data are explained B. the advantages of firstborns in the area of IQC. the planned size of families D. the factors influencing intelligence62.Why are firstborns encouraged to seek a higher standard ?A. They are more obedient (服从) and have poorer social skills.B. Their parents spend less time with other children.C. They obtain more attention from their parents.D. Their parents expect more from them.63.The best title for this passage would be_.A. Family Size and IQ B. The Preference of Boys to GirlsC. The Development of Intelligence D. Factors Influencing IQ CIf your idea of a good time is to sleep in a hut, carry your own rubbish, and eat insects and wild animals, then ecotourism may be just for you. But is it also for people who want to fly over a rainforest sky before checking into a comfortable and expensive hotel in the middle of a national park? Whatever ecotourism is, it is hot-perhaps too hot for its own good. The World Tourism Organization claims that the industry looked after 592 million travelers last year who spent $423 billion, and of all the types of tourism, ecotourism seems to be the fastest growing. By the broadest measure - a trip with some sort of nature or wilderness element - ecotourism already accounts for perhaps a third of these travelers. On a stricter definition favored by the Ecotourism Society, it is responsible travel that preserves natural environments and keeps up the well-being of local people, which accounts for no more than 5% of tourism. Ideally, ecotourism helps both people and nature. Before the disastrous civil war, Rwandas Mountain Gorilla Project was one such model. Visits to the gorillas were limited, local guides ensured good behavior or on the part of the humans, and the high admission charge - $170 a day - paid for salaries and presentation of the gorillas living areas. As this made the gorillas worth more alive than dead, poaching (偷猎)decreasedAs another example, preservation Cooperation, Africas largest ecotour operator, uses only local labor, buys products from local farmers, and supports building projects: such as clinics and schools. This contribution to social advance is also good business sense. Projects from which local people benefit directly are less likely to be affected by poaching and theft. Ecotourisms biggest problem is labeling. Going on an ecotour is no guarantee of good ecology. So far, only Australia has an official system to grade tour operators and tourist attractions on the basis of their greenness. Another issue is how ecotourists damage the environment. Dolphin-feeding, for instance, is innocent and enjoyable, but after too many free meals, the dolphins forget how to catch their own dinners. Keeping prices high is one way to limit enthusiasm. But measuring the effect of ecotourism on human environments is trickier. It is common, for villagers to see ecotourism as a source of new income. Hence, the very tourists who venture in search of traditional cultures end up breaking them up. As ecotourism becomes more popular, it will finally threaten the very things that are good for business.64.According to the passage, ecotourism may _ . A. harm its own purpose by becoming too popular B. save the environment by becoming more popular C. harm its own purpose by becoming less popular D. save the environment by becoming less popular65.Within the tourism industry as a whole, ecotourism _. A. has no single, clear definition that would satisfy everybody B. has expanded less rapidly than other types of tourism C. claims that no comfortable hotels should be used by tourists D. most often has
