Speech for International Nurses DayDistinguished leaders , distinguished colleagues hello everybody. Today is International Nurses Day , a special day to every nurse . I wish you all happy Nurses Day . As we know the reason that Nurses Day is held on the 12th May each year is because this is the birth date of Florence Nightingale. Despite the rumour and social prejudice, Nightingale gave up her rich physical life, firmly, committing herself to nursing career. She made many reforms to nursing and health care and drastically cut the death rate amongst soldiers in the Crimean War as a result of her hard work, dedication and training of fellow nurses. People usually speak highly of nurses as angels in white. because in their mind , nurses are upright , kind, selfless and friendly. The publics admiration and trust for the nursing profession is perfectly summed up in the term Angels in White .In 1985, the Director-General of WHO, Dr H. Mahler, proposed that nurses could “lead the way” in Primary Health Care. He suggested that the profession would experience the following changes: The roles of nurses will change; more of them will move from the hospital to the everyday life of the community, where they are badly needed; Nurses will become resources to people rather than resources to physicians; they will become more active in educating people on health matters; Nurses will increasingly innovate and participate in programme planning and evaluation; More and more nurses will become leaders and managers of Primary Health Care teams; Nurses will thus assume greater responsibility for taking decisions with health care teams. We are all the nurses working in Primary Health Care. Today ,in 2011,we have do the upper changes such as Dr H. Mahler suggested. We visit patients, we do chronic disease management, we do health education, we care about peoples health not only their disease, and some of us become the leaders of our center. On this International Nurses Day I am reminded that nursing is not just about completing tasks, it is about being an advocate for your patient, serving the community and caring and most of all being the best nurse we can be. Be proud of the job that we do, be proud of what role we play in the community and feel valued by the people who we look after, whether they show it or not.As it going: if there isnt inveteracy, there isnt prosperous leaves and sweet-smelling flowers, if there isnt headstream and flowing water, there isnt rapids and waterfall, if there isnt medical workers hard work,
