初三完型填空练习题AThe most difficult thing for university student Shaun Rogers is opening his classroom door. Shaun cant do this without help because hes only six years old. Hes the youngest person ever to (1)s_ at Rochester University in New York. Shaun began reading at two, and by four he knew a lot about many (2)t_ from astronomy(天文学) to zoology(动物学). At the age of five, he could regularly talk to university professors about his ideas. He has just completed his first book which will come out in a few months, shortly after his seventh birthday. “I love learning,” says Shaun. “My hero is the scientist Albert Einstein because he never combed his hair or wore socks.”Psychologists(心理学家) have found it difficult to test Shauns cleverness because they do not have a score that is high (3)e_ for him. Shauns mother first knew her son was different when he kept crying at playschool because he was bored with the childrens games. She started (4)t_ him at home after finding that local schools were not prepared for children who learnt at Shauns speed. Now Shaun is studying geography at Rochester University and using the Internet to complete his high school studies. However, some psychologists warn that too much study can (5)s_ a child from growing up in a healthy way. “ I dont care how clever the kid is, six-year-olds have to (6)p_with their friends,” says Dr Brain Wood. Mrs Rogers doesnt agree that her sons time is completely taken up by schoolwork. “He loves the violin and has many outdoor interests, such as camping, fishing and swimming, just like other boys of his (7)a_.”BHumans have five senses: sight, hearing, taste, (1)s_ and touch. We use these senses every day in our lives when we work, play, eat and drink. Animals have senses too, and sometimes they work much better than ours. We have our food prepared for usbut animals need to (2)f_ their own food using their senses. For example, animals that hunt other animals often have very good sight. Some birds can see a mouse at a (3)d_ of 1.5 kilometres. However, they dont always catch the mouse. Mice have very, very good hearing and this helps them stay away from danger!Insects sometimes have senses that are (4)d_ from ours. For example, butterflies dont taste with their mouththey taste with their feet. Crickets (蟋蟀)dont hear with their earsthey hear with their legs. Chameleons (变色龙) have two eyes, but they can move their eyes separately and look in two different directions at the same time! Some animals seem to have a special sense that tells them about the future. Birds, ants and many other animals are busier looking for food just before bad weather. This helps them stay alive because it is more difficult to find food when the weather is bad. Birds also use this (5)a_ to get out of bad weather when they fly long distances. For centuries, people have noticed that animals often behave (6)s_ before an earthquake. For example, in January 1975, a lot of farmers in one part of China told scientists that their horses and cows did not want to go into barns(畜棚). A few days later, there was a large earthquake in that region. Do animals have a special sense that knows when earthquake will happen? The answer is probably yes, but scientists do not yet (7)u_ how it works. C“Life is speeding up. Everyone is getting unwell.”This may (1)s_ like something someone would say today. Your mobile phone rings; a QQ message from your friend appears on the screen; the noise from the television is getting louder and louder. Suddenly the screen of the computer goes blank and you (3)l_ all your work. Now you have to stay up all night to get it done.Inventions have speeded up our lives so much that they often leave us feeling stressed and (4)t_. Why do you think people who live far away from noisy cities, who have no telephones, no cars, and even no electricity often seem to be much (5)h_? Perhaps its because they live simpler lives. One family in the UK went “back in time” to see what life would be like without all the inventions we have today. The grandparents, with their daughter, and grandsons Benjamin, 10, and Thomas, 7, (6)s_nine weeks in a 1940s house. They had no washing machines, microwaves, computers or mobile phones. The grandmother, Lyn, said, “The more things you have, the more difficult life (7)b_.” The boys said they fought less. Probably, they said, because there was less to fight over, such as their computer. Benjamin also noticed that his grandmother had changed from being a “trendy, beer-drinking granny, to one who cooked things.”DMore and more people around the world are taking part in dangerous sports and activities. Of course, there have always been people whohave looked for adventures those who have (1)c_ the highest mountains, travelled into unknown parts of the world or sailed in small boats across the greatest oceans. Now, however, there are people who look for immediate excitement from a risky activity which may only last a few (2)m_ or even seconds.I would consider bungee jumping (蹦极)to be a good (3)e_ of such an activity. You jump from a high place (perhaps a bridge or a hot-air balloon) 200 metres above the ground with an elastic (有弹性的) rope tied to your feet. You fall at up to 150 kilometres an hour (4)u_the rope stops you from hitting the ground. It is said that about 2 million people around the world have now tried bungee jumping. Other activities which most people would say are as risky as bungee jumping include jumping from tall buildings and diving into the sea from the top of a high cliff. Why do people take part in such activities? Some psychologists say that it is (5)b_ life in modern society has become safe and boring. Not very long ago, diseases could not easily be cured, and life was a continuous battle for survival(生存).Nowadays, according to many people, life offers little excitement. They live and work in comparatively safe conditions; they buy food in shops, and there are doctors and hospitals to look after them if they become (6)i_. The answer for some of these people is to look for (7)d_ in activities such as bungee jumping.ELife in the future will be much more (1)d_ from life today. Many changes will take place. What will the changes be?The (2)p_ is growing fast. There will be more people in the world and most of them will live longer than people do now.Computers will be much smaller and more useful and there will be at least one in every home. And computer science will be one of the most important subjects in school then.People will work (3)f_ hours than they do now and they will have more free time for sports, watching TV and travelling. Travelling will be much cheaper and easier. And many more people will go to other countries on holiday. There will be changes in our (4)f_, too. More land will be used for building new houses. Then there will be (5)l_ room for cows and sheep, so meat will be more expensive. Maybe no one will eat it every day. Instead, they will eat more fruit and vegetables. And people will be healthier. Work in the future will also be different. Robots will do (6)d_ and hard work. Because of this, many people will lose their jobs. This will be a (7)p_. FStudents have many dreams. These dreams can be very big, such as winning the Nobel Prize. They can also be small, such as becoming one of the (1)b_ students in the class.Once you find a dream, what do you do with it? Do you ever try to (2)m_ your dream come true?Andrew Matthews, an Australian writer, says that making your dream come true is lifes biggest problem. You may think youre not very good at some school subjects, or that its impossible for you to become a writer. (4)K_ telling yourself what you want every day and then your dream will come true faster. You should know that a big dream is, in fact, made up of many small dreams. You must also never give up your dream. There will be (5)d_ on the way to realizing your dream. But the biggest difficulty comes from yourself. You need to decide what is the most (6)i_. Studying instead of watching TV will help you to get better exam results, while saving five yuan instead of buying ice cream means you can buy a new book.As you come closer to your dream, it may change a little. This is good as you have the (7)c_ to learn something more useful and find new hobbies.G: Read the passage and fill in the blanks with proper words. Victor used to be such a good runner that he had won nine awards by the age of 18. Then one day while he was running (1)a_ a roadside, an accident suddenly happened to him. Unfortunately, both of his legs were injured seriously by a car out of control. Since then, he has not been able to (2)w_ any more. After a long time, however, he knew life would not stop for him. He focused on what he could do instead of what he lost. He realized that there were many possibilities for the disabled. One of the things he became (3)i_ in was foreign languages. Every day he listened to tapes and read books. After several years he became fluent (流利的) in three (4)l_. Then he tried his best to work as a translator in a company. To everybodys (5)s_, he became the best one in the city. Victor not only wishes he could walk, but also he is always looking forward to living a wonderful life in the future.
