Unit 5 What were you doing when the rainstorm came?Section A 1a1cTeaching Aims:Knowledge Object: Learn to talk about past events and tell a story.Ability Object: Learn and master the past progressive tense.Moral Object: Encourage students to observe the things around them carefully and find out the beauty of life.Teaching Key Point: Learn and master the usage of the past progressive tense.Teaching Difficult Point: Be able to talk about past events using the past progressive tense.Teaching Methods: The situational teaching approach, audio video, task-based language teaching method.Teaching Aid: Video, Tape recording, PPTTeaching ProceduresStep 1 Leading-in by a video(about 3minutes)Greet the class as usual.Play the video of a rainstorm.T: What happened in the city?Ss: Rainstorm.Then T teaches the word.Step 2 Presentation (about 10minutes)Show a picture of playing basketball and ask:T:What was the boy doing at the time of the rainstorm?Ss: He was playing basketball.Explain the usage and the structure of the past progressive tense: was/were +v-ing.Show the pictures of doing the homework, reading,waiting for the bus.Step 3 Task of 1a (about 4 minutes)Look at these people.Where were they ?T:Where was the girl?S1:She was in her house.Step 4 Interviewing(about 3 minutes)Step 5 Listening Practice(about 10minutes)Have students read the phrases in 1b and circle the correct responses .Step 6 Playing a game(about 2minutes)Step7 Practice(about 5 minutes)Let students work in groups of two.
