语 篇 提 能阅读理解A(2014北京东城区高二检测)Orbis is an organization which helps blind people everywhere. It has built an eye hospital inside an aeroplane and flown it all over the world with an international medical team. Samantha Graham, a fourteenyearold schoolgirl from England, went with the plane to Mongolia. Samantha tells the story of Eukhtuul, a young Mongolian girl.Last year, when Eukhtuul was walking home from school, she was attacked by boys with sticks and her eyes were badly damaged. Dr Duffey, an Orbis doctor, said that without an operation she would never see again. I thought about all the everyday things I do that she couldnt, things like reading schoolbooks, watching television, seeing friends, and I realized how lucky I am.The Orbis team agreed to operate on Eukhtuul and I was allowed to watch, together with some Mongolian medical students. I prayed the operation would be successful. The next day I waited nervously with Eukhtuul while Dr Duffey removed her bandages. “In six months your sight will be back to normal,” he said. Eukhtuul smiled, her mother cried, and I had to wipe away some tears, too!Now Eukhtuul wants to study hard to become a doctor. Her whole future has changed, thanks to a simple operation. We should all think more about how much our sight means to us.语篇解读文章向读者介绍了Orbis组织为一位女孩进行手术,使其重见光明的故事。1What is the writers main purpose in writing this text?A. To report a patients cure.B. The young boy learned to adapt to the disability at a very early age, using his legs as his “hands” for everything, ranging from working in the garden to fixing small things and even, sharpening knives!Unfortunately for him, his parents didnt really spot his talent and decided that the only way he could make a living was by begging. Not knowing any better, he took up that lifestyle for a few years. But, he was constantly traveling to neighboring cities in an attempt to seek something better to do.Then, about 20 years ago, he met his wife, who encouraged him to change his life around. Sintayehu not only taught himself to read and write, but also, worked on developing his basic woodworking skills.Today, nobody in his community even notices his disability. What they do notice is his unbelievable carpentry (木工手艺). The amazing man however says that while it may surprise other people, to him its just second nature. His only regret is that his disability prevents him from building larger pieces of furniture. While Sintayehus story would be considered unbelievable in any part of the world, it is even more so, in a thirdworld country like Ethiopia, where most ablebodied people can not get half the opportunities people in the Western world can.
