(10分)阅读理解 I felt very sad not to be able to get the ticket to the film Titanic last Friday. I learned in the newspaper that tickets could be bought at the cinema box office in Richland Hills every day between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Because I work from 9:00 a.m.to 5:30 p.m., the only time I could go to the cinema was during my 45-minute lunch time. It is a pity that the cinema is on the other side of the town, and the bus service between my office and Richland Hills is not very good. But if you are lucky, you can make the round(往返)trip in 45 minutes.Last Monday I stood at the bus stop for fifteen minutes, waiting for a bus. By the time I saw one coming around the corner, there was not enough time left to make the trip-so I had to go back to the office. The same thing happened on Wednesday. On Thursday my luck changed, I got on a bus right away and arrived at the cinema in twenty minutes. But when I got there, I found a long line of people at the box office. I heard one man say he had been waiting in line for fifty-five minutes. I found that I would not have enough time to wait in line. I caught the next bus and went back across the town. Then on Friday I understood my only hope was to make the trip by car. It was not cheap, but I felt it would be worthwhile to see the film. The trip by car only took 10 minutes, but it felt like one hour to me. When I reached the cinema, I was delighted to see that nobody was waiting in line. But I quickly found out that it was because they had already sold out all the tickets.(1)It seems that the writer of the story works . The results of a survey of 1,850 Los Angeles County high school students show just how much the cuts are affecting students.Because of teacher layoffs(解雇), class sizes at some high schools have risen to 50students even in math and English classes. Some 37 percent of students report that they sometimes, dont have a desk to sit at. Sixty seven percent say crowded classrooms make them feel the teachers dont have enough time to teach, and 30 percent say theyre not been able to join in a program because its no longer offered at their school. At a time when technology is an important skill, 52 percent of students say there arent enough computers. Or theyre often broken, and theres no one to fix them. Fifty-one percent say theyve had to share textbooks with a classmate because there arent enough copies to go around. Fifty seven percent say they had to copy information because their school doesnt have enough paper to make copies. We have only one science teacher for the entire(整个的) high school, writes Felix Ruano, a 16 year old student. He goes on describing how that teacher, who is only qualified to teach chemistry, is teaching physics or, at least, is trying to do so. He shows physics videos and we teach ourselves from our textbook, says Ruano. And, as has been seen elsewhere, all but one of the restrooms at Ruanos school have been closed because we dont have enough people to clean them.Ruano notes that though faced with the challenges, 97 percent of students say they plan to go to college. But without properly trained teachers and the best resources, says Ruano, its not likely that every student will achieve that goal. Unless schools fix these problems, he says, students could lose hope.(1)According to the text, education cuts have led to the following results EXCEPT that . (5分)阅读短文,完成表格,每空一词。 What do we really mean by being open? Being open is a kind of invitation to others to come in, to speak and to share. It is important to let others get to know what we think and how we feel. In this way we will be understood and accepted by others. If we arent open with others, we wont fully believe in ourselves or others. Here are a few ways for you to be more open. First, make your outside behavior the same with your inside feelings and thoughts. Second, share how you really feel about something instead of just opinions. Third, try to change your questions into statements(陈述句) and talk in the first person so that people will understand you more easily. For example, you might say, I feel happy that youre here. instead of Are you glad that youre here? Finally, try not to say, I dont know. This usually means I dont want to think about it any more.Remember also that it is not suitable to be open with everyone in every situation. You may want to be more open with close friends, but not with people you dont know well, because you are not sure how someone else will use what they know about you. Besides, some people may not be used to too much openness. If we say everything we feel or think to them, they will feel every uncomfortable at times. In all, being open is a good way for us to get on well with other people, but wed better keep the balance between being open and not being too open.
