课文标题 How to Achieve Academic Success 课程类型 读写课授课年级 高一授课时间 45 分钟教学设计理念 新课标提出,教师要为学生的英语学习创设特定的主题情境,以连续的语篇为载体,引领学生分析语篇类型,获取语言技能,并在学习的过程中掌握一定的学习策略。期中考试即将来临,教师通过复习迎考这一特定情境,以how to succeed 的语篇为载体,在对该文本进行深层分解后,就学生如何取得学业成功这个话题,模仿文本结构,辅以自身的实际经验,实现从理解过渡到运用,并最终达到迁移创新。教学内容分析 该文本属于议论文。作者依照重要性,依次罗列了各种促进人们成功的因素。并对各种因素分别采用正反推理,假设推理等论证手法,伴以一定的修辞手法(排比)和高级句式(各类从句)来论述自己的观点。本节课将指导学生分析文章的论述结构,找出段落之间的关系,并引导学生进行组内讨论和个人反思,运用给定文本中的结构与句式,最终将促进学生取得学业成功的各种因素落实成文。并指导学生在学习(尤其是英语学习)策略方面进行调整和改进。学情分析 高一6班为普通班,学生平日思维活跃,英语基础扎实,乐于参与课堂活动。经过大半年的学习,已基本适应高中学习的节奏。英语写作上已经掌握了一些基本的句式(定从,名从,强调句,非谓等)和一些高级的词组。但在议论文写作方面涉及较少,对此种文章的结构较为陌生。此外,他们在学习的方法和策略上已经有一些自己的反思和总结。但是,语句中的逻辑,同时也是其思想上的逻辑的反应,于他们也许是一大挑战。教学目标1. Master the key points of writing a persuasive paragraph 2.Reflect and adjust cognitive strategies in terms of English learning 教学过程STEP 1 Reading (write your outline) 5 min 1. Get students to have a discussion concerning their preparations related to their mid-term examinationQ: What will you do in preparation of the mid-term examination? 2. Have students go through the essay quickly and get the gist Q: What does the essay deal with ? PURPOSES These activities relate the topic to the authentic world of their own experience, giving them the chance to discuss examples from their own lives; therefore, create a framework through which they can interpret the topic. STEP 2 Exploring ( illustrate your mind map) 25 min 1. Have students list factors contributing to their success in the coming exam according to their priorities.Q: What will give rise to your success in the exams? 2. Have them read Para 2, analyze the relationship between sentences and complete their paragraph via applying the structure (key sentence- evidence) as well as the word OTHERWISE3. Have them read Para 6, analyze the relationship between sentences and complete their paragraph via applying the structure( quotation-expansion-examples) as well as the word IF 4. Introduce other means of making the argument an analogy, drawing comparisons, facts and statistics, statements of expert authorities, and research findings5. Have them share their works in public. PURPOSES These activities aim to help students categorize information via mind map. By means of processing the writing strategies in the 2 paragraphs , students master the approaches to developing a more persuasive paragraph of their own. This process also help students evaluate whether they have understood the strategies and it is an example of collaborative activity resulting in a final product. STEP 3 Polishing (apply various sentences structures) 10 min 1.Have them read Para 4 and focus on the arrangement of the sentences beginning with the word WHEREQ: How many sentences are there? What is the function of the arrangement?2.Have them imitate these sentences and try to apply other clauses (e.g. attributive clauses) to the writingPURPOSES Have students master other ways of making the argument, including using an analogy, drawing comparisons, or illustrating with hypothetical situation (e.g. what if, suppose that)STEP 4 Developing (make your own conclusions) 5 min 1. Get them to share their final works 2.Have students make their own conclusions in terms of writing a good persuasive essay( from the aspects of structures, paragraphs, and sentences) 3. Have them reflect on the suggestions obtained from others concerning the preparation of the exams , list the most impressive one and talk about the application into their own study. PURPOSES These activities are designed to help students review what they learnt, reflect on their former learning strategies and adjust them according to their own needs. STEP 5 Assignment 1. Finish the essay 2.
